"And today, class, we're getting a new student. Isn't that a rare treat?" Ms. Selke announced after she had finished taking attendance. "Come on in, dear." she called to a person outside the classroom. The door opened, and a girl walked in. She was 15, like the majority of the class, and had shoulder-length blonde hair and large green eyes. The girl was dressed in the regular school uniform, but she had added a blue scarf around her neck.
"Hello, My name is Natalia Lanven. I hope we can be friends." Natalia's voice had a light and warm feel to it, and some of the boys were already whispering among themselves about her.
"Alright, let's see, where shall we put you?" The young brunette teacher looked around. "Hmm... It seems that we only have a couple open seats. You can take the fourth seat in Danian's group, raise your hand, dear, or you can sit next to Alexis, raise your hand too, sweetheart. You can choose."
Natalia surveyed her options. Danian, a small boy with long black hair tied up into a high ponytail and gold eyes, sitting with two redheads, a boy and a girl, who were obviously twins. Alexis sat by herself, but with her sleek black hair and pretty blue eyes and makeup, she was obviously a popular girl and didn't want anyone sitting next to her at the moment because she was too busy checking her image via her phone camera. "I think I'll sit next to Danian, ma'am."
"Very well then. The twins sitting with him are Luke and Lucy." Ms. Selke went over to her computer and sent the attendance record to the office as Natalia went over to Danian's group and sat down next to Danian and across from Lucy.
"Hi, I'm Lucy Grants, and this is my younger twin brother Luke. The golden-eyed beauty next to you is Danian Panthe." The hazel-eyed, redheaded girl introduced the members of the group in her high, clear voice.
"Lucy, you're only older than me by 13 seconds. And stop blatantly flirting with Danian." Luke sighed and covered his eyes with his hand. "Honestly, I don't know where you get all your energy from."
"I steal it all from you, of course!" Lucy teased, sticking out her tongue.
Ms. Selke sighed, turned to the class and tapped a ruler on her desk, making everyone fall silent.. "Okay class, since the principal is testing out new technology today, it looks like it's just going to be a free-study all day because we teachers aren't allowed to use our computers after sending attendance."
"Awesome! That means we can do nothing but talk about ourselves and get to know each other better!" Lucy was extremely excited.
Luke groaned audibly and slumped down on his desk. "And here we go with Lucy's life story, down to the most delicious crayon color that she ate when she was 7."
Danian laughed. "Hey, don't worry, if she has good memory now, it just means that she'll have horrible memory by the time she's 30!"
"I don't know whether to take that as a joke or seriously..." Lucy muttered as Luke muttered, "I don't know whether to be relieved or upset about that..."
Natalia looked at Lucy. "Why would you take a joke like that seriously?" She asked curiously.
"Hmm, well, Dani here, despite being a total slack-off when it comes to work, is actually really smart~! Almost everyone asks him for answers instead of the teachers, though he doesn't always answer." Lucy mused. "But then, despite all his good points, people always focus on his bad points and--"
"Oy, don't go talking about other people's problems without asking them first." Luke interrupted his sister. "Besides, you know Danian doesn't like people pitying him."
Lucy blinked, and looked at Danian. "Aww, but Dani doesn't mind, do you~?"
Danian pulled a pencil out of his pencil pouch and tapped it on his desk a few times before replying. "Luke's right and you know it, Lucy." He paused before smiling too happily and saying offhandedly. "Oh, and may I remind you not to call me Dani?"
Lucy lurched backward, and seemed frozen in place. Natalia poked her. "...Lucy? Are you okay?"
"Oh, she's fine. She gets like that when Danian scares her. Which, seriously, dude, you really need to teach me that trick." Luke said, sighing.
Danian shrugged. "I would if I could, but I have no idea how I do it."
Natalia and Luke looked at each other. "Liar." they muttered almost simultaneously.
"Did you say something?"
"N-No! Nothing at all!"

Later that day, as everyone was preparing to go home, Alexis walked up to Natalia. "This morning, you totally, like, lost your one chance to be popular. Choosing that golden-eyed idiot over me..." She glared at Natalia. "If you do anything else like that, I'll totally, like, make your school life miserable." She walked away, giving Natalia no time to defend either herself or Danian.
"Now that's one of the major problem girls at our school. Thinks she owns the place and all the people in it." Danian suddenly said, then changed the subject. "Anyways, Lucy, Luke and I were going to hang out later. Since you've been accepted into our little group, do you want to come with us?"
"I would if I could, but I've gotta go to work. My shift starts pretty much right after school today and goes pretty late." Natalia replied, sighing.
"Ah. Well, maybe another time, then." Danian nodded, then finished gathering all of his stuff just before they were dismissed. "See ya."
Natalia watched him walk away and fade into the hallway crowds. Ms. Selke walked up behind her. "Be careful of those three, Natalia. I know you've all just become friends, but I still feel I should warn you."
"Warn me of what?" Natalia blinked and tipped her head to one side.
"Here at school, they seem innocent and friendly, but outside of school, there're some pretty wild rumors about them. That and the fact that every person who has ever gotten violent or too verbally abusive to any of them disappears." Ms. Selke sighed. "Well, you should hurry along, sweetheart, you did say that your work shift started soon after school, right?"
"Oh, yes. Thank you for telling me this, Ms. Selke." Natallia headed out of the classroom and as soon as she was outside, she leaned against the wall and made a call. "Hey, it's Nat." She paused, listening. "Yeah, I might be getting onto something. Not sure if it'll lead anywhere yet, though." She listened again. "Okay, see you in a few minutes, then." She hung up and put her phone away, then ran to get to the bus just before it left.

Not really much action in this chapter, it's basically just introducing some characters. Also I decided to go third person, not first. Next chapter will focus on Natalia at her job, which, by the way was the reason she got transferred to this school. Okay, that's enough spoilers for now.
Indi out.
