Severus sighed. Of course, it was him who'd been assigned the job of checking on the Potter boy. He hadn't come at all in his first week at his second year at Hogwarts and there had been a major discussion which Severus had paid no mind. That was until he had overheard where it was Harry was staying.
"You left Lily's son with her?" Severus yelled at Albus Dumbledore in outrage. Albus sighed and sat down, rubbing his eyes. Severus was furious, not that he liked the brat. He was just as outrageously snobby as his father. Thus, Severus had been given the job to go check on Harry.
He apparated to Surrey and walked down some of the streets until he arrived at privet drive. The houses were oddly neat and ordinarily boring. Lily would have never have allowed her son to grow up in such a place, in such solitary boringness. She would have wanted him to grow up learning about everything and living in a field, Severus was sure. But the Potter boy was nothing like Lily. Instead, he was an exact copy of his father.
Severus stopped his thinking only to knock on the door of number four privet drive. There was no answer. Severus rolled his eyes. He came all this way for them not to be in? He was about to turn away before a thought came into his mind; Petunia Evans hated magic.
Sighing again, Severus pulled out his wand and did some spells to try and unlock the door. Surprisingly, it didn't take long for Severus to get in the house. It was dead silent but something felt off. He didn't want to look around and find there was nobody there. He was about to cast a location charm when he heard the sound of someone crying through some thin fabric. It was coming from the cupboard under the stairs.
With dread welling in the pit of his stomach, Severus walked over to the cupboard and cast and did a quick Alohamora on the lock. It opened and, plucking up all of his courage, Severus pushed open the door. Harry was laying on the cold ground, his arms tied together and his shirt soaked with blood. He looked so thin, almost as if food had never passed his lips. His hair fell messily over his face and his eyes were stained with tears. He looked up at Severus, his face going red and his eyes widened slightly.
Steadily, Severus reached out towards Harry and took off his gag. Severus quickly untied Harry's ropes and went to look at his wound. It was bleeding slowly and it was clear that someone had stabbed him in the side. Severus went to look at it closer in order to assess the damage, after which he picked Harry up and got ready to apparate once they got outside.
"It hurts, Professor. Please help me." Harry said before falling asleep, knowing that he was safe. Severus' eyes filled with tears. This was Lily's son. Severus knew that it was him who needed to save him.
