"You, miss Harris," said the doctor, whom she would come to regularly for checkups, in a bitter tone, "are pregnant."
"You're certain?" She asked. She couldn't believe it. Part of her was thrilled, and the other part terrified. In the past year, she had only had one client. With the bruises he always left, no one else would rent her out for the night. She prayed he wasn't the father, but there was no way it could be anyone but him. She prayed, not sure God could hear her, as she walked home to the Red Rat.
