My views on mainstream music:
Oh... Time for a confession. I don't listen to popular music. I listen mostly to metal, hard rock, alternative rock, etc... Ever heard of Black Veil Brides, Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance or Nathan Sharp/NateWantsToBattle? Panic! At The Disco maybe? Falling In Reverse? Probably not. Not only that, the only popmusic I listen to is K-Pop. Mostly BTS and Blackpink.
I have my reasons to dislike mainstream music. The biggest reasons are: "Where is the meaning?" and "Where are the actual lyrics?" or "Is that even classified as singing?" I mean, the last song I heard some guys at my school "sing" was "Man's not hot" by Roadman Shaq (or something like that) and to be honest... It sounded like they put someone having a stroke in a record studio and put some music under it. Now, it's not fair to choose only one "artist". Look at Taylor Swift's song "Look What You Made Me Do". It sounds like she repeats that sentence for the whole song! Another example of bad music: Lil Pump's Gucci Gang. The whole chorus is just the title being put on repeat. At least he can't forget his lyrics!
Other mainstream music like Ed Sheeran or Imagine Dragons I can enjoy. There's not always a meaning behind the song but at least I don't need to turn on subtitles on YouTube or look up the lyrics to understand what they're actually singing about. There are songs I don't like just as "Thunder" or "Believer" by Imagine Dragons but songs like "Whatever It Takes" or "Demons" I just love. Same with Ed Sheeran. I really like "Galway Girl" and "A Team" and I just LOVE "Photograph". But "Shape Of You"? I don't know what it is but I can't stand that song. Yes, I know all the lyrics but I know the lyrics to "Despacito" too and I hate that song.
All I'm saying is that mainstream music is not my style. I'm not a fan of it and I'm afraid I'll never be. I don't see it as a loss because I enjoy concerts of Alice Cooper or Marilyn Manson instead of Ariana Grande or Katy Perry. Everyone has his style and this is mine.
So yeah, there are my thoughts about mainstream music right now. Not everything I listen to has to be metal or hardrock, like you may have noticed I can enjoy some slow and peacefull songs too. Anyway, I know my opinion isn't popular (sure as hell since I'm a teen and people will think I'm a grandma...). But I have my own style. Just like everyone else. So yeah, hope you enjoyed!
