I duck under a low hanging branch, and hear a rustle of leaves right in front of me. I immediately switch directions. I start to imagine how much information the blues will be able to get out of me if I am captured. As it turns out, though, it was just a squirrel. Jumping over a stream, I start to come to the border. Currently, I am on blue land, but if I can just pass that large boulder....I hear footsteps behind me. Fast ones. Loud ones. Wondering if the blues hired an elephant to chase me, I sneak a peek back. I see a blue, close that he can almost touch me. I am already running as fast as I can, so all I can do is pray that I can make it to the border in time. The blue's name is Adom. He is a scout. He has light brown, short hair that will not stay out of his eyes, which are also brown. This might just work to my advantage, because he doesn't seem to realize we crossed the border until it is too late. I whip around and grab his arm, catching him by surprise.
"Gotcha," I say to him. All he does in reply is gulp. I bring him back to base. There I see Sam, the co-leader of the reds, is giving a speech to Tracy and Mable about the importance of not bickering when you are sneaking around. The lecture immediately skids to a halt when he sees me.
"You caught a blue?! I thought you were out scouting," he exclaims, looking Adom up and down in case he has any tricks up his sleeves. Adom just stood there, like a deer in the headlights.
"I was," I explain, agitated, "but he chased me over the border and didn't seem to realize it until it was too late." I let Adom. Thinking, I tuck a piece of my flame red hair behind my ear to keep it out of my face. I have been told it looks like a fire in the right lighting, and that it goes well with my eyes as green as emeralds. Sam is getting pretty upset. He is kind of a control freak. His blonde hair is styled in one of those weird, strangely popular ways, with the sides shaved and the top kind of spiked up. I don't get why so many people like that style.
"I should interrogate him," Sam says. He acts as if he were a god or something. Why don't you just flood the whole forest then use your magic powers to float the flag this way if you are so high and mighty? I think. I wish I could say it out loud. I consider it, just to see the look on his smug little face, but instead, I nod. As a co-leader myself, I have to look calm and polite, yet take charge where I can.
"I think I will interrogate him," I tell Sam, "I did catch him after all." Sam glowers at me, but says nothing. He thinks he is so high and mighty. It's really annoying.
When we interrogate people, we do so so that they will not get hurt. And they will also not be mentally scarred. All we do is make them drink bottles of water and then not let them go to the bathroom until they talk. Or we shine a bright light in their face. Either way, eventually they always end up talking. I shine the light in Adom's face.
"Where's the blue flag," I say, forcefully, yet calm.
"I will never talk," Adom says with a smug look on his face. Okay, I think then let's do it the hard way. I turn the brightness on the flashlight to max, then set a bottle of water down in front of him. He looks at the bottle warily, both teams have the same methods of interrogation. I see his lip quiver.
"Fine, fine. It's behind the great oak, right next to the dark cave. Can I go now?" he exclaims hurriedly. I tell one of the guards to put him in the prison. The conditions are actually pretty nice there. It is open air, but you can't escape. I hold a meeting to decide what to do next. We all sit around a small rectangular table. I am at one of the heads, Sam is at the other. On the right side sit Tracy and Mable, two of our fastest runners and awesome guards and scouts, and Paisley and Mark, who are loyal to the bone. To the left, James and Nyla, our best deceivers, with Kacey and Lilly, who are also very fleet-footed.
"We need to send a group out to get that flag," Sam begins, "One leader, two scouts, and one deceiver," He looks at me, daring me to say something. I decide to take that dare.
"I will lead the mission," I say. Everyone nods, and it is settled.
"Tracy and Mable, you will be the scouts and wings. James, can you be our deceiver? Kacey, I need you to stay back and spread the word to defend our borders." Everyone I mentioned nods. The others look a little disappointed, but they know what to do. "We leave now," I state.
