I stepped out of a locker that some jock shoved me in. I straightened my glasses.
I hurried to class so the jocks wouldn't see me. I was late again.
"Mr. Carter." My teacher said. "You're late. Again."
Everyone laughed at me. I just looked down at the ground.
"Quiet!" Mrs. Dalrymple said.
Mrs. Dalrymple pulled me to the side. Everyone went back to focusing on their work.
I looked at Mrs. Dalrymple. I was expecting her to give me a long lecture about being
late to class, but she didn't.
"The jocks again?" She asked.
"Yeah." I said looking at the floor. I didn't expect her to ask about the jocks. Especially
that no one cared about if I got hurt or not. She gently lifted my chin up.
"Carter, honey. You really shouldn't let them push you around like that. You should
stick up for yourself. You shouldn't let them bully you like that. It's not right. It's not
right at all." She said softly, so just I could hear.
"I know, I know." I said. "But they're bigger than me. Tougher then me. They could
break every bone in my body. I'm afraid Mrs. Dalrymple. What if they try to come after
me, and hurt me? What if they try and hurt my friends? I don't want that to happen.
Especially to my friends." I looked down at the floor again.
"Oh, Carter, Sweety. If you ignore them they will stop. They will. I promise. You just
can't let the do that to you. Not doing anything about it is not going to make it stop."
She looked at me straight into the eyes. "We will talk about this later okay. Meanwhile
go take a seat. You already finished all your work on Friday so you can do whatever you
want, okay?"
"Okay." I said bluntly.
I went to sit down next to Nash. He was staring at the girl sitting in front of us. Her
name is Daphne. Nash has had a crush on Daphne since kindergarten. She liked him
too bit she told me to swear on everything I love not to tell him. So I didn't.
The bell rang. Second period. Now here is where the real trouble begins...
