“Are you sure? No, this isn’t possible. You must be mistaken.”
“Ms. Flemming, I promise you there has been no mistake. Your Great Grandmother left everything to you. All of her properties, personal possessions, and assets are now yours.”
This doesn’t make any sense. She barely knew the woman, and she honestly thought the woman hated her. How could she leave everything to her? Surely there was someone else more willing to take over her large estate? I guess it couldn’t hurt though. She was 25 years old, no college degree and no boyfriend to speak of. It’s not that she wasn’t attractive. No, it was more of a dislike of the stereotypical male on her part. All the boys around here just drove her nuts. They were such idiots, with their lame pickup lines and immature jokes. Boys, that’s all they were.
“Ms. Flemming, I need you to sign these papers and that will finish up the paperwork.” As she signed the papers in front of her, it felt almost as if she were signing her life away. The lawyer gave her the keys to her great grandmothers home and a small box, including a couple small items and a little note from the woman herself.
“My dearest Egypt,
If you are reading this then I have now left this world. I know we did not spend much time together over the years but I have kept tabs on you and have always made sure you were safe. This may come as a shock to you but I am leaving you everything that I own. There are many things you need to know, but you will have to find them out in your own time. Be careful who you trust, my dear. This world is a strange and deadly place. I love you, my girl, and I wish we could have gotten to know each other better.
Your Nan.”
Well that was interesting…What is she talking about? Things I need to know? A deadly place? Egypt thought. She took a cab to her great-gr… wait, no, its hers now- her new house, and was completely shocked, being as she had never seen the property. This wasn’t a house. This was a freakin’ mansion. From the front gate looking in, it was like a fairytale. A long curved driveway, perfectly manicured flower gardens, and at least one beautiful water fountain with a priceless looking statue in the center. All around the house and gate was a heavily wooded area that seemed to cut off the outside world. Everything was so beautiful. She had never seen anything like it. And this is all mine now? Could this day get any weirder?
