PERCY JACKSON AND THE EMERALD PEARL

I was on a date with my girlfriend, Annabeth, when it happened. The water at Montauk Beach had been fairly calm so far. Yet as we were walking, I could feel the subtle change in the ocean. The waves were getting bigger, and more aggressive, as Annabeth and I walked further down the shore. It was as if the ocean was mad or agitated about something.

A large wave rolled in, and sprayed us with saltwater. "Percy, why is the ocean acting like this? Do you think maybe Poseidon is causing the ocean to act like this?" Annabeth inquired.

"Maybe, I--" I stopped mid-sentence. A wave was heading toward us. A wave the size of 2 football fields. A look of confusion flashed on Annabeth's face.

"What are you--" I turned her around. "Styx," she cursed.

The wave slammed into us, and in a panic, I put a protective air bubble around us, considering my girlfriend wasn't a daughter of Poseidon. The wave continued to flow over us. Eventually, the wave subsided, and in place of where it had been, stood...my father? We both stood as who I thought was my dad walked over to us.

    Poseidon nodded. "Hello, Perseus. Annabeth."

"Hey, Dad. You kind of...interrupted...my date..." I exclaimed.

"Look. No time for sarcasm or attitude. I need you and your girlfriend's help with something," he explained.

     "A quest? I'm on a date!" I complained.

He handed me a note. It read:

     Perseus and company,

I have lost something important. If my brothers and sisters found out, I would be ruined, which is why I came to you. I have misplaced my trident, the original one. It was in the form of an emerald pearl, when it fell out of the small compartment in my watch. I believe it is somewhere in Atlantis, where I was giving a tour of the museum. If you can retrieve it, I will need it by 11:30pm, exactly 11 hours and 30 minutes from now, as the meeting for the Summer Solstice is at midnight. I will provide your girlfriend with the power to breath underwater, and both of you the power to move normally in the ocean, as you would on land.

Your father, God of the Sea,

     Poseidon

I paled. My father, one of the most powerful gods, lost his most powerful weapon. And my girlfriend and I had to retrieve it. Gee, that sounded familiar. Like the time I had to retrieve Hermes's caduceus a month before Hera stole my life from me.

I handed the note to Annabeth. She skimmed through it, her mind quickly processing the words. As she read, her eyes went wide, and she paled as well. She handed the note back to Poseidon. "Will you do this, for me?" he asked. Annabeth and I had no choice but to say yes. "Excellent! Meet me by the Empire State Building at 11:30, sharp," he commanded. He started to walk away, but I realized something.

I ran over to him and asked, "Wait, where is Atlantis? And you said you'd give us some certain powers?"

"Ah, yes! It slipped my mind. Athena spawn, come here!" Poseidon demanded.

Annabeth ran over to us. "Give me your hands, both of you," Poseidon commanded.

He held out his hands and I put one hand on his right, while Annabeth put one hand on his left. Poseidon closed his godly eyes for a few seconds, then reopened them.

"There. Now Annabeth, you can breathe underwater, both of you can move normally in water as you would in land, and Perseus, I planted the coordinates for Atlantis in your head," he quickly explained. "Now, go!"

With that, he liquidated into water and slithered into the ocean.

I looked at Annabeth. "Looks like we have a quest to Atlantis."

We walked to the shore, when Annabeth said, "Wait, Percy. We don't have a boat. And according to you, Atlantis is literally right in the middle of the Atlantic."

As soon as she said that, the water about 3 yards ahead started bubbling. We backed away, well knowing that's what water did when there was an underwater volcanic eruption. Luckily, it wasn't any volcano. A good, medium-sized motorboat floated out of the bubbling water, a few feet in the air, then plopped right back onto the ocean. We now had a ride.
