Zayn

I CRINGED AT THE SIGHT of the aged pale school building through the car window. Everything seemed to look dull today; most likely due to the fact that I was heading to detention. The sky was a murky gray, the clouds shoved themselves in front of the sun causing for no sunlight to peek through, and it was raining.

I really didn't even know why I was here. It's not like I was the stereotypical type of person who gets detention - that being the usual bad influence sort of person - and I wasn't even supposed to get caught. That's the only thing I ever did wrong in my entire life.

Nonetheless, that didn't matter. What mattered was that I was currently spending my Saturday in detention when I could be working ahead on schoolwork. But no, life just had to absolutely refuse to cooperate with me and not go on about letting me actually live for once.

"Now, Zayn, remind me what you're supposed to do during there?" Mum ordered, raising her eyebrows at me - something she always did when things weren't going her way.

I sighed. "Don't talk to anyone, follow whatever the teacher says, and if there's no assignment, study."

"Good. And I'm sure that this is the only and last time that you get detention, right?"

"Right." I answered, looking down solemnly at my lunch bag. I hated it when people were disappointed in me.

"Alright; grab your lunch and head on to detention." She spoke with a slightly calmer tone, pointing a finger at me as if to warn that if I were to go anywhere else, I'm dead meat. I didn't know why she did that, though. It's not like I had anywhere else to go.

I nodded curtly, grabbing my brown paper-bag and walked up the long tortuous path to school. This was precisely why I normally stayed out of certain activities involving stuff that would end up in some type of consequence. I stay out of trouble so I wouldn't risk anything.

Anyways, I wouldn't even know anyone there, so most likely I would be the loner where everyone else is chatting it up with someone they know.

I sighed, opening the school doors. Sauntering over to the library entrance, I placed my hand on the doorknob. I then pulled my hand back for a moment of hesitation. What if there's nobody there? What if I'm in the wrong place? What if there's a supernatural being in there?

Quickly coming to the conclusion that my head wasn't in the right place at the time, I fixed my glasses so they were perched comfortably on the bridge of my nose before taking in a deep inhale and slowly turning the doorknob.

Louis

"I can't believe you. I thought you promised that you weren't going to get into anymore stuff like this, Louis." Dad said, rubbing his temples that seemed to grow an extra wrinkle by every passing second.

"I did, it just - I don't know, happened." I muttered, picking at my fingernail.

'I don't want to be here any less than you do,' was what I actually wanted to say.

"Just don't let it happen again, please," he exhaled in such fatigue that it caused me to wince until I composed myself for what I was about to say.

"Yeah," my voice barely came out noticeably, causing me to nod in confirmation of my next promise that was soon going to be broken. It didn't bother me much anymore, doing that. Or so I preferred to think.

"Go on." Dad sighed for what seemed to be the millionth time today, unlocking the car doors.

I climbed out of the car seat, grabbed my lunch, and then whirled back around to avoid the appearance of the rotten school. Flattening my lips into a thin line at the sight of the car leaving in a cloud of dust, I turned around to face the beast before me. My face immediately scrunched up in disgust. All of a sudden, my phone dinged indicating that I have a message.

nick: hey, you at detention yet?

I rolled my eyes. Nick was my friend ever since we strolled through the doors of high school as freshmen. However, even he doesn't know everything about me - yet he thinks he does.

me: at the school entrance right now

nick: why don't you just ditch

me: promised the old man that i wouldn't cause any more trouble

nick: sucks

nick: but if itll convince ya, beth's here

Beth? Didn't she just previously tell me that she was going to be at her swimming tournament or something? Whatever, I didn't really have a thing for her anyways. As much as it truly was horrid, I was only dating her to cover up that one main thing about me.

I looked up from my phone when I heard a car pass by. To my luck, it was the devil himself, principal of this hellhole, Mr. Dick. He must've been the one watching over us.

me: got to go mate, dick's here

nick: later

I flipped the ringer off and shoved it into my pocket. Sprinting to the entrance, I hoped that Mr. Dick wouldn't see me. After a couple of minutes plainly based on trying to find the actual library itself, I stumbled upon the one door somehow. I didn't make a haste on opening the door, ignoring the rush of feelings that abruptly overwhelmed me when I took one step inside. This was going to be an eventful day, I could already tell.
