4:37am
I awoke that morning to rain coming into my bedroom through the window. I sat up letting the mist from the cool air dampen my skin, and set chills on my legs and across my rib cage. still feeling groggy from the night before I tied my hair back into a ponytail and clumsily made my way into the bathroom, staring in the mirror for a minute before crinkling my nose and starting the water for a shower.
"HELLO!?" a yell from down stairs calls out. The smell of black coffee and, pancakes? enters me as I make my way down the stairs after reluctantly turning off what was meant to be my shower - (peace of mind.)
Entering the small kitchen in me and my moms apartment I'm unsurprised to see my best friend Jace, his back to me, facing the stove "Hello Jace..." I say with a drawn out sigh.
"Morning Fiona". Jace turns his face towards me with a quick glance, and turns around to switch my coffee mug to one three times the size.
"is that necessary?" I ask half laughing
" well considering I can see the dark under your eyes from here, yes."
although it wasn't news that I care for, I knew he was right. My mom, being an artist is gone frequently and with all the things that need to be done around here I hardly get time to myself anymore.
"How's your morning?"
"its been ok so far.." Jace says, setting the coffee down with a plate of muffins and taking a seat in the stool across from me.
"Spill" I hate to pry but I know something's up.
He swallows a mouthful of pastry and opens his mouth to talk "ok well... I need a place to stay for a few days... mom kicked me out again"
"oh, well you know your always welcome here" I say thinking twice.
I couldn't help but remember the times that we've been so close to developing feelings for each other, and It made me afraid to have him so close.
"thanks Fi, I cant thank you enough.."
"really its no big deal, you can sleep in my room"
