Its been two days with no activity. I know the Game Makers are planning something to get us moving. I go ahead and prepare packs, so that we can be ready to leave if more tracker jackers or something come after us. I bend over a backpack, filling it with canteens and blankets, when I hear rustling behind me. Cato and Peeta had gone out to hunt for food hours ago. "Finally find something?" I ask with a smile. Silence meets me. Wait. They would have said something. A knife is the closest weapon within my reach so I grab it. But before I can whip around to face the noise maker, a deadly scimitar is at my neck. My blood runs cold. A deep voice says, "Looks like its just you and me fire girl." Its Thresh. I am still. Is this it?

He continues, "I'm sor--" I cut him off screaming, "CATO!!" as loud as my lungs will allow. Thresh quickly puts a dark hand over my mouth and presses the blade further against my throat, so I know. One false move and slice. I gulp as he continues, "I'm sorry. I didn't want to be a killer... but I want to go home." I can tell he's about to slit my neck when whizz.

I look to my left and see Cato's spear sticking out of Thresh's shoulder. Thresh lets go of me so he can tear it out. I fall to the ground forgotten.

I see Cato rush towards Thresh, both hulking figures armed and ready to kill. Peeta rushes to my side asking, "Are you ok?" I nod as he helps me up. I whip around to see Cato call out in pain as Thresh sticks his scimitar in Cato's thigh. Blood flows from the wound, staining the ground. I see Cato's face grimace in pain but my feet are frozen. I can't move; can't call out to him. I'm stuck watching the battle that I so desperately want to be over.

Cato glares at Thresh and with one last burst of brute strength, rips the scimitar that is in his side out and repositions it in Thresh's chest. Death is swift. Thresh falls to the ground as a cannon booms. Cato smiles weakly at me. "Too easy." He says. And then we hear it. The howling of wolves that are on the hunt.
