"AJ," my mom yells from downstairs, "get ready, we have dinner with Lisa and Sean tonight!" I took a 30 minute nap and I did not want to wake up. I slid under the duvet until my body was completely covered. However, I could hear Mom stom upstairs into my room. "Audrey Jasmine Hernandez, wake up right now!"I slither out of bed and plomp on the groud. "Mommmmm, I have show choir practice today," I yawn and stretch.
"Oh my gosh, I completely forgot!" Mom sighs. "When practice is over remember to go to the dinner! Also honey, please don't forget the gift Mrs. Anderson! It's your last time seeing her."
"Okay mom, but why do I have to go to the dinner tonight?" I groan as I toss my school clothes in the laundry hamper. Great I just got home from school only to go back and hour later.
"Lisa and Sean's sons got here yesterday and they're leaving the same day you are."
"Okay so why the dinner?"
"Honey it's just a welcome back dinner for the boys, come or else you can't go to LA."
"Fine mom, I'll go, but right now I gotta head to practice." I hug her and rush down to the counter to grab the present for Mrs. Anderson and my car keys. I make my way to my car, only to remember that I needed to get my water and mints. "Damnit!" I quickly run back to the kitchen and grab the things I forgot.
As I drive, I warm my voice up by singing in different octaves. "I am a bright shining star, I am a bright shining star, I am a bright shining STARRRRRRR!!!" I sing while I check my makeup.
A couple seconds before the light turns green, I hear a voice say, "With that voice you sure are!"
I turn my head, realizing that I had left the darn car window open, but the person who said that already drove off.
Blushing, I parked into the school parking lot and made my way into the choir room. Mrs. Anderson smiles as I rush in, "Ah, Miss Hernandez! I am so sad that this is your last class with me."
"Oh yeah, thank you so much for teaching me! Without you I wouldn't have had this opportunity!" I hand her the thermos I found on Amazon that had musical notes decorated all over it.
"You didn't have to get me a gift darling!" She exclaims. "Why don't you tell the class the reason of your departure."
She motions for me to go to the front of the class. I haven't told anyone about this in fear of someone trying to snatch it away from me. I haven't even told my best friend Rylee. Then again she can't sing to save her life. The glares of my classmates bore into my skin. "Well you see," I fiddle with my hands, "I'm going to Los Angeles to audition for a TV show that primarily focuses on singing..."
I look around the class and everyones eyes are wide open. "Wait so does that mean your not playing Eliza for out Hamilton musical?!" A girl named Tamara asks. I was never really fond of her to be honest.
"Erm yeah, BUT Nicole is my understudy remember? So I'm sure that Eliza's in good hands." I look at Nicole and she shyly smiles. "Okay, look, my mom wants me to go to this dinner tonight, so I kinda wanna make the most of my last show choir practice. So let's not worry about Hamilton right now."
There are a couple murmurs, but I choose to ignore it. "Mkay, class! For the rest of class let's just sing! If you have a song you want to sing, just come up and sing! Who would like to go first!?"
Jackson Richardson walks down. He was going to be my Hamilton. And I'm so glad that I'm not gonna be in that musical because I'd kiss anyone but him. "I'll be singing 'I Miss You' by Blink-182."
