-Kate's Point of View-
"Hurry up, Niall! We're gonna miss it!" I whine, tugging on Niall's hand. He chuckles lightly, allowing me to drag him to the local music hall. Yes, it's the Annual Music Fest. I've never been, and Niall promised he'd take me this year. Our parents didn't want us to go because there is usually a lot of drinking and smoking going on, so we're basically sneaking. Niall, being the occasional idiot, forgot to set his alarm for 6:30, the time we were supposed to meet up. So here we are, sprinting towards the looming music hall that stands directly in the center of the city, out of breath and completely screwed. We arrive at the gate gasping for air. Niall holds out our tickets and the guy at the door takes them, rips off half and gives us the remaining halves back. Niall and I enter, the heavy smell of alcohol and cigar smoke meeting our noses almost instantly. I cough a little and he looks at me, concern filling his blue eyes.
"Kate, you okay?" He asks, his prominent Irish accent more noticeable now than ever.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I say, sneezing. Niall eyes me.
"Don't lie. If you get too sick, let me know and I'll take you back home." He replies.
"Okay."
He turns to face the stage, sighing loudly.
"What's wrong?"
"That could be us some day..."
"What?"
"Y'know, we'd be famous and all, performing together and traveling the world in each other's company. Wouldn't that be fantastic?"
"Um, yeah, I guess so..."
"But then again, they're actually good at singing. Whenever we do, our neighbor's ears start bleeding."
"Ha, yeah. You made my nose bleed once."
"Am I really that bad at singing?"
"No, you punched me while you were sleeping that one time we had a sleepover of sorts."
"Sorry 'bout that, Kate." Niall says, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Naw, don't worry about it."
We both direct our attention to the stage, the beat rattling our bones. Niall and I nod our heads to the music, meanwhile slinging our arms around each other's shoulders. I shiver as his fingertips lightly brush my neck. I know I shouldn't feel like this, we've known each other since we were born. It's hard not to develop feelings for someone you've known for 20 years. I need to restrain. He's just a friend. Get in the friend zone, Kate. Just friends.
