"But you know...the funny things about dads, is that they are never there when you need them. But then always show up when you don't."
This was the show nineteen year old, hard-working and ambitious, goody-girl christian who always made sure to go to Mass Sunday at eight in the morning on the dot, no later than or earlier than, and sat in the front pew facing the priest dozing off the first five minutes into the sermon was listening to. She was a vegan every other week but managed to always break it the first day, so it was more of an off and on kind of thing... but none of this actually matters.
Seol Ha was one of the good ones, always tried to do the right thing.
She was watching her favorite Korean drama, The K2 when she suddenly feels air fill her head, and the room around her begin to rotate counter-clockwise. The tuna salad that she had just digested was making its way back up her esophagus. As she struggles to reach the bathroom, that was oh-so-close but not close enough. She could feel the vomit teasing to come out. It felt as if you were subconsciously shaking a bottle of soda not realizing the pressure and fizz that is waiting, patiently to spew out at you once you open the lid.
In other words, she was really going through it.
She falls down on the tiled floor of her bathroom and begins to crawl on her knees to reach the toilet. The past few days had been hell for her, she couldn't even look at food without feeling nauseous.
Her baby girl was due in two weeks.
Seol ha was scheduled to have the baby a day after her birthday, but nothing was going right. No clothes, no baby room, no bib, no nothing. She felt like it was just yesterday that she had gathered up the courage to walk into the bathroom and pee on the stick thinking there's no way she could've been pregnant. There was just no way.
Jimin, her boyfriend, had traveled to America before she could tell him that she was having a baby. Which left Seol Ha on her own, they decided on continuing long -distance, but everyone knows that almost never works out.
She grunts rinsing her mouth of vomit residue and picks up a call from Taehyung, Jimin's best friend.
"How's the baby ?" taehyung deep voice pours through the phone, sounding like he had just woken up from a long nap. frankly, he was more hyped up about having the baby then she was.
"She's....." She manages to make her way back to her bed falling into a pile of maybe dirty, maybe clean laundry and a few Welche's fruit snack wrappers whilst knocking over her half-filled water bottles that decorated her apartment floor.
Seol ha had been struggling to face Taehyung for the past couple of days. She just couldn't do it, every time he called it made her realize how alone she was. Never in her life did she imagine herself to be living in a shit apartment, knocked up, with no man or financial support whatsoever.
It's not like she could just tell her parents, who thought that she was still making that 4.0 gpa her bitch and breezing through college, that she had been on a maternal hiatus for like the past couple of months.
She didn't even know if that was allowed, but she was doing it anyways.
"It's okay, if you don't feel like telling me..." Taehyung chuckles bitterly trying desperately to fill the void of silence between them. Maybe it was out of his own sense of justice but he always made it a rule for him to check up on Seol Ha at this time of the day, ever since she had gotten pregnant. Unlike his best friend, who never even let her know if he had made to Los Angeles okay or if he was even still alive.
Seol Ha sighs in agony.
"I'm just so excited for you, Seol-ah. Physics man, you're bringing a whole new life form into this world. That you made..isn't that amazing. Women are so cool."
"Yup...so cool" She whispers sarcastically, looking at herself on the camera. She couldn't remember the last time she got dressed up for herself, just to look pretty. Seol ha wondered if all mothers felt this way. Her shoulder-length chestnut hair that used to be straight was now, going in every other direction. Her eyesight felt like it was deteriorating so she wore unprescribed glasses which could potentially make them worse, and had pimples popping out on every other pore, and she didn't even feel like shaving her legs at this point like who was she really trying to impress.
"I mean that came out wrong...uh, how do I say this like the female body it's just fascinating how you do THAT like you did THAT. I'm not making any sense and sound like a pervert but i mean mad respect for women, y'all like i mean-" Taehyung rants.
"Taehyung" she repeats his name for the tenth time and clenches onto her phone and closes her eyes shut preparing herself for rejection.
"Yes!" Taehyung speedily replies.
"I do want to tell you, no—, I think you deserve for me to tell you."
"I mean, yeah it'd be nice if you did but like, I guess it's not really that serious bu-"
"It's your baby....." she sighs," Taehyung, you are the father."
