Chapter 1: Problems
Hi, my name is Summer! I am 14 years old. I have 2 sisters and three brothers. 2 of my brothers died of pneuomia :(. My sister Catalaya is 15 and my other sister Rose is 8. My last living brother James is 8 also, Rose and him are twins. We live in Iowa.
After my brothers died my mom has been all kinds of crazy. She has been coming home late with the smell of alchol on her! We barely see my dad. He only comes home on the weekends bc he works so often.
Mom comes home again drunk with a guy followin her. We all know whats going to happen.... even the little ones. She is not gonna come out of her room until shes finished. She claims this is how she makes a living since our dead beat dad left us. I try to tell her that he didnt leave us but I get a slap to the face. Mom usaully doesnt hit me! Rose starts to cry, so I put her and James to bed while Catalaya and I start talking.
"Mom is getting out of control" Catalaya says. I think about this before I respond "I know I think its time for us to leave" Catalaya and I pretty much watch out over everybody since we are the oldest. "I know, what about dad? Where will we go?" says Catalaya. I dont know of many relatives but I know we have a grandmother...... But she lives in Hawaii. How will we get there from a small place like Iowa?
"I think we should go to grandmothers house in Hawaii." I tell Catalaya.
