~ Vance - Chapter Four ~

A yawn escaped Teagan’s mouth as she made her best effort to cover it up, and I glanced over at her from the corner of my eye. I still can’t wrap my mind around the fact I had found my mate. I'm a twenty four year old man – the idea of finding her had long vanished from my mind and I never gave it another moment of thought.

Then she lands in my hand – almost literally, and now here we are, in my room where she has curled up on my bed, while I sit on the edge. Hours we have been talking for, and I can’t say the entire conversation was interesting.

At first, she had been reluctant to tell me her story, even though she knew mine, but then she admitted that her wolf was telling her she could trust me and that she too felt like she could. So, she spilled her guts and told me everything.

Teagan was leaning up against the bed head, snuggled in with pillows on both sides of her while she smiled softly at me, “I’m originally from overseas, but I’ve been living here for as long as I can remember. My father was, or still is, the beta of my birth pack, but I haven’t spoken to any of them in so long now, they all probably think I am dead.”

When she had admitted this, I didn’t think as I reached over and took her hand into mine, squeezing it lightly to encourage her to go on. Being soft and caring isn’t something I’m use to doing, I’m tough and emotionally closed off, but with Teagan it all seems to just come naturally – like an instinct on what to do.

Her delicate fingers interlaced with mine as she stared down at our joined hands, sighing softly, “The pack had enemies, and one night they attacked – coming at us from all sides. I don’t even know if anyone noticed I had vanished at first, there was so much going on then. Wolves tearing each other down, I remember the howls of pain filling the night sky as if it were yesterday,” a single tear escaped the corner of her eye and my body shook.

Closing my eyes and taking deep breaths to calm myself down, I needed to hear her story and she would never finish telling me if I turned halfway through with the need and wanting to go rip some wolf’s throat out. So, I did the next best thing, I shifted up the bed so my back was flat with the headboard and pulled her onto my lap, something she didn’t do anything to resist.

Teagan leaned into my chest, wrapping her arms around one of mine as I held her protectively, my silent way of letting her know that nothing would ever happen to her ever again, not while I’m alive.

“I don’t know if my family has tried to find me or not, it’s been so long that they have probably given up. The man who took me blindfolded me and shoved me into the backseat of a car, I was so scared and I didn’t know why it was happening to me. He kidnapped me when I was five, but I never knew why. The next thing I knew, we were boarding a ship and I’ve never been home since.”

Silence had filled the room after she mentioned that, I was doing everything within my will power to control myself, to calm down and finally I asked her, “Who was he? Do you know where he is right now?” I wanted his head on a stick, I wanted to murder him with my bare hands, I wanted to string him up and inflict torturous amounts of pain on him for doing this to my mate, the girl I will spend the rest of my life...for doing this to Teagan, who had just been an innocent little girl.

Teagan shrugged lightly, “I don’t know, I spent most of my time locked in a room away from him – I couldn’t even give you an accurate description of him. All I really know is I was twelve when I escaped, I ran like there was no tomorrow because he hadn’t locked my door for the very first time.”
