I woke up to the rare sight of my father sitting on the edge of my bed, lightly shaking me. I rubbed my eyes and sat up just a bit.
"Dad? Am I dreaming, you never come and wake me up," I said with slight gravel in my voice from just waking up.
My father is a very rich man, he never had too much time for his kids, and it was the same with my mother. Of course, like most children, I have warm and gentle memories of my parents from when I was younger, but ever since my 9th birthday they've been... distant. I know that they're busy and to be honest I don't really mind. I love my parents for all they've done, but it's not so bad. I have Artie, my oldest sister, and Corry, my older brother.
"No, you aren't dreaming. I'm here to take you to get your school supplies. Now get up and get dressed, we'll leave in an hour," My father said.
"Okay," I said happily with a sleep worn smile.
As soon as my father left I rolled over on my back, sighed, and stared blankly at the ceiling. I can't believe that he actually came to wake me up. In person. It's been too long since I've woken up to my father's face. I sat up and stretched my back, then proceeded to neatly move my blankets away and get out of bed. I threw on a pretty white blouse with flared, ruffly sleeves and a soft velvety but not quite velvet pair of black shorts along with some generic short white socks. I went into my bathroom and put my hair into a ponytail with my favorite, over-worn, scrunchie and headed for the door. I slipped on some sneakers and left my room. Once I was downstairs I grabbed a plate of already made pancakes and ate the crap out of them.
"(Y/n) Are you ready?" My father called.
"Yes, I'll only be a minute dad!" I yelled back.
I quickly put my plate in the sink and chugged the last bit of milk in my cup. I ran over to the fireplace, grabbed my black blazer-like coat from the coat hanger, and we were off.
We got to Diagon Alley and began to get all of the necessary things. When only my wand and pet were left my father took me to get some ice cream, as a mid shopping snack. I finished my ice cream cone and walked to the pet store. There was a brunette boy with striking emerald eyes holding a white speckled owl inside the store. He looked at me through the window and we kept eye contact for a bit too long for my comfort. I opened the door and looked all around. There were cats, owls, toads, rats, and stinky pet foods all over the place. I passed the boy and walked over to the kittens to see the cute babies. There was one with a stripped racoon tail, and one that was pure white. But a cute little grey and white Scottish Fold rolling around like an adorable little freak, and I knew I had to have him. But before I decided anything I wanted to look at the owls. I walked over to the cages and spotted a gorgeous gold and black dusted barn owl.
"Dad I can't decide between the owl and the kitten..." I pouted slightly.
"Well you can only have one, so you need to choose," My father said. I was half hoping I could get both.
"You should get the kitten," the boy from before said randomly.
"And why do you say that?" I asked, sort of rudely, but that wasn't my intention.
"You just look like a cat person to me," he said.
"Really? That's your reason? Hmph, I guess it's not that far fetched..." I replied, feeling a bit defeated mid-sentence.
He just shrugged and said "I guess. U-um, sorry, I have to go get my robes fitted now, it was... nice meeting you I guess,"
After he left I went over to the kitten and picked him up. I held him up in front of me and looked him dead in the eyes and he just stared back with his big, buggy eyes. I simply draped him over my shoulder and went to the counter. My father paid for the cat and guided me to the wand shop. We got to the counter of Olivander's and saw no one behind it. suddenly, out of nowhere, an old man popped up from behind one of the shelves in the back.
"Oh hello, Ms.(L/n), I've been wondering when another young (L/n) would come in here. I remember selling your father his first wand... a mere 6inches, redwood, not flexible, and a unicorn hair core.. quite a flimsy and overall unimpressive wand" the man said with a muted chuckle.
"Yes well now this isn't the time to be remembering my wand, we are here for my daughter," My father said curtly.
"The kids used to call him stubby or unicorn, anything just to get under his skin, he seems to still be quite bitter on that front now isn't he," The man whispered to me and chuckled.
"Can we see what my wand is?" I asked somewhat politely. I really wanted to see my future wand.
"Ah, why of course, of course..." he trailed on and went to the back shelf.
When he came back he had a cute red box with a gold string tied around it.
"Here try this one, 9inches, redwood, quite flexible, with a unicorn hair core,"
He handed me the box and I opened it, taking no time to pull it out and give it a try. A whole ton of boxes flew off the shelves and onto the floor.
"Not that one then..." the man took the wand I had and went to go get another one.
Little did I know we would be there for two hours until I found the right wand. My father was getting impatient and almost made us go home after I broke the store window. So many bad things had happened to the store, I broke the window, nearly every wand box was on the floor, a couple shelves broke, and there was a new leak in the ceiling.
"Okay, now there is only one wand like this in the whole wizarding world. Be very careful, this wand is a work of art. I don't know if it will be the one, but, it is 11inches, white birch wood, medium flexibility, and a dragon heart string core," Mr.Olivander said exhausted. "Please be careful this time, it took 3 different wand makers and 3 artists to make this wand what it is,"
The wand was pure white with a silver lace handle and a clear gem encrusted on the very bottom of the wand. I could tell that there was little magically special about the wand, but the intricate design and flawless craftsmanship was pretty amazing. I flicked it gently, hoping not to destroy the whole damn shop. But instead of some disaster, white sparkles floated through the air gently, the air smelled like a flower field and the clear gem had a sparkle, like a mini white star, glowing inside of it.
"Finally!" I groaned, scaring my father awake.
"Did you find one?" my father asked hoping we could leave.
"Yes she did, she finally found the one," Mr.Olivander said.
"Great," my father said. we wrapped things up and paid. My father promised to pay for anything irreplaceable that was damaged.
We went home and I headed straight to my room. I put my little kitten down on the floor of my room and kicked off my shoes, not caring where they landed. I put on a night gown and flopped down on my bed and looked at the little kitten wandering around my room.
"What should I name you little guy?" I said to myself.
"How about... Conner... no that's weird. What about... no..." I sat there staring at him and his short little legs for a good couple of minutes.
"I've got it!" I went and picked him up, "Sentinel. Hopefully you can live up to your name and guard my stuff." I said with a bit of a laugh.
"*Meow of approval*"
"Great!" I said.
I played with Sentinel for about half an hour, until 7:00. At 7 I went and ate dinner, after that I went to bed.
