What's the Difference?

Sofia has faced many changes since she became a princess. She was blessed with King Roland II becoming her stepfather and Prince James and Princess Amber becoming her stepbrother and stepsister. She remembered the color of her magical amulet changing when she freed Princess Elena from the jewel, so they could save the latter's kingdom from Queen Shuriki. Sofia made things change for Avalor that day.

Sofia knew it was hard to accept changes, but they happen for a reason. As a matter of fact, there was one change coming for Sofia and her friends: they were graduating from Royal Prep this year.

Another day at Royal Prep had finished, and Sofia was excited about graduating, but she was also a little sad about leaving behind something she loved. Her best friend (and boyfriend) Prince Hugo could tell that something was bugging her.

"What's wrong, Sofie?" Hugo asked.

"I'm just thinking, Hugo," Sofia replied. "So much is changing now that we're graduating."

"You're right—things are changing for us," Hugo agreed. "I have to admit, I'm excited about going to school with Axel again—but on the other hand, I'm sad about graduating myself."

Everything is changed for Sofia and her friends. They didn't think anything else could be different.

As Sofia and her stepsiblings got into their coach, they were thinking about this new change coming to their lives.

"This has got to be the biggest change that happened since you came into the family, Sofia," James declared.

"I know what you mean," Sofia said.

"Why does everything have to be different?" Amber fretted. "This is just like the time Sofia became my sister."

"You say that like it's a bad thing, Amber," Sofia frowned.

Amber realized how rude and hurtful she was when she said that, and she smiled at Sofia nervously.

"Let's just think about the bright side of graduating," James told his sisters.

At Enchancia Castle, Sofia was in her bedroom, looking at an old portrait of her wearing her old dress with her amulet in purple. She thought the color of her amulet was good.

Long ago, the Amulet of Avalor used to be ruby red, and it belonged to Elena's mother, Queen Lucia. She gave the Amulet to her older daughter for her 15th birthday. One year later, Avalor was invaded by an evil, power-hungry sorceress named Shuriki. She used a magic spell to claim the lives of Lucia and King Raul. Elena chose to face Shuriki alone. Shuriki tried to strike Elena down, but the Amulet saved her life by pulling her inside it—and that's when the Amulet turned amethyst purple. Elena waited 41 years for the right princess to free her form the Amulet—and that was Sofia. When Sofia freed Elena, the Amulet turned ruby pink. Since then, Sofia never looked at her amulet the same way again—and it wasn't just because of the color.

"Well, not all changes are bad," Sofia told herself. "I don't miss the purple color of my amulet, and I don't miss my old gown."

Just then, Sofia's animal friends Clover, Mia, and Robin came to see their favorite princess.

"Hey, there she is," Clover smiled.

"How's our favorite princess?" Mia smiled.

"Oh, I'm fine," Sofia said flatly.

"You don't sound fine," Robin noted.

"I'm just thinking," Sofia admitted. "My friends and I are graduating from Royal Prep soon enough. It's a really big change."

"It really sounds like it," Clover said. "But so much has changed for you lately. You're a Protector of the Ever Realm, you have a pretty new dress, and you have a pretty pink tiara, and your amulet is a beautiful new color."

"Yeah, so much has changed for me since I became a princess, like my home, my school, and especially my family," Sofia realized.

That night, Sofia, Amber, and James were very quiet during dinner, and their parents noticed how quiet their children were.

"My, you're all even quieter than mice tonight," Roland remarked.

"We're just thinking about how different things are and will be," James declared. "Things were different enough when Mom and Sofia came into the royal family."

"Now that we're graduating from Royal Prep, things will be more different," Amber said. "We'll be going to a whole new school with new rules, new teachers, and new classmates."

"Yes, everything will be different," Miranda agreed. "How do you feel about going for a walk in the village after school tomorrow?"

"Brilliant," James grinned.

"A nice walk through my hometown should clear my head," Sofia smiled.

"I suppose," Amber shrugged.
