Chapter 6
Julia's POV
I grab the red flag and run as fast as I possibly can towards the blue poles on our side of the field.
We are playing capture the flag and it is The Daredevils verses The Dominators. The game is almost over and we were on a tie but if I get this to the blue poles, we win.
I am about to reach the end of the field and can hear people shouting around me, but before I can pass the end line, someone tackles me to the ground.
I keep the flag tight under my body, holding it so that nobody can get it. The person that tackled me spins me around and I see that it is Max. He grins and grabs the flag from my grip with ease.
"Babe, you can't beat me," he whispers and stands up, running to the other side of the field. I get up and run as fast as I can, and when I reach him, I jump up onto his back and he falls back, onto me.
I groan as the air is shoved out of my lungs, but I quickly recover and snatch the flag from his grip. With every ounce of energy I have, I get up and run.
When I hear people cheering, I finally stop running and look around with a smile. I beat that little piece of dick that thinks he is the shit.
Excuse my language.
I turn and look at Max and he has a frown on his face, making my smile widen. Just cause he is a really good kisser and is super gorgeous doesn't mean he is better than me. I definitely won't let him think he is better than me.
He walks up to me, still breathing rapidly from all the running, and puts his face a few centimetres away from mine. "You won't win again," he tells me.
I smirk. "Babe, you can't beat me," I whisper, mocking what he said just a few moments ago.
I walk away from him and towards Diana, who looks like she is going to burst with excitement. I grin at her and she claps her hands and jumps up and down. "Yes girl, you fucking slayed it!"
I chuckle. "Yeah, but I'm really hungry now. Can we leave and go to a restaurant or something? I don't feel like eating here today."
Diana nods and we start walking inside, so that we could leave. "Maybe we could go to that café down the road. I heard the brownies there are amazing," Diana says.
"Sounds good. I hope they have waffles though. I haven't had one in forever and it would be perfect right about now."
"You know what I haven't had in forever?" she asks.
"What?"
"Nik naks. I had a love hate relationship with them cause they tasted kinda good but they made my hands orange. I lived in South Africa and I miss them now."
"Oh, that-"
I stop talking halfway when someone places their hand on my shoulder. I turn around with a frown, and come face-to-face with Max.
I smile. "Are you struggling to come to terms with the fact that your a loser, Mister Holland."
He lets out a fake laugh and rolls his eyes. "Loser? That's not what you were calling me when you were moaning my name on Friday night, sweetheart."
I push his chest slightly and glance at Diana and she looks shocked but slightly amused. "You wish."
"Actually, I need to talk to you alone quickly. Please?" he asks and glances at Diana, then back at me.
I sigh and look at Diana again and she shrugs, winking at me before walking away. I can actually feel her laughing at me inside her head.
She has no idea.
"So, um... I know this is totally against the rules and everything but I, uh, I..." He rubs the back of his neck and doesn't meet my eyes. Well that was a quick change of mood. He went from a cocky prick to adorably shy sweetheart.
Ugh, I hate boys.
"Is everything okay...?" I ask.
"Yeah, sorry, I'm just nervous. I'm asking you to do something that you shouldn't do."
"Well, now I'm curious." I chuckle, making him smile.
"I know you said we should forget about what happened in that massage room the other day but... I can't and you have been on my mind ever since it happened. Will you go out with me? I know it's totally wrong and everything but I really want to get to know you..."
I smile and purse my lips. That is so sweet and I am so single, so why not? I mean I wouldn't mind having his lips on mine again.
"Sure. When?"
His eyes light up. "What about tonight? We can go to this restaurant called Kreme," he offers and I nod in agreement.
"Okay, but nobody else can know about it. This is just to see what happens but it means nothing. Got it?" I say.
He nods and grins. "See you later," he says before walking off.
