Sheyenne walked through the woods with Amy laughing at something her friend had said. They dodged branches and laughed everytime one of them got hit with one.
“Everyone died of laughter. We couldn't stop.” Her friend said.
“That's hilarious.” Sheyenne said between wheezing breaths.
The two girls were only in the woods because they decided to go camping with Sheyenne’s parents. Her parents had told them to go explore like it would be fun. Turns out it is when she has her closest friend to laugh with.
Amy suddenly stopped laughing and pointed at something Sheyenne couldn't see.
“What?” She asked looking with confusion at her friend.
“You don't see that house down there with the fence?” She questioned.
Sheyenne looked closer trying to see it but before she could say she couldn't see anything, Amy ran off yelling for Sheyenne to follow. Sheyenne rolled her eyes and took off after Amy. When she finally saw what Amy had been talking about, Amy was already over the fence and walking toward the house.
On the fence was a no trespassing sign private property. Sheyenne sighed and yelled at Amy.
“Amy this private property, we can't be on it.”
Amy's head and upper body popped from behind the side of the cabin. “Oh come on quit being a baby. It's fine, no one is even here.” Amy turned back behind the house leaving sheyenne to decide for herself.
“Ugh, why is she such a pain in the ass.” Sheyenne jumped the fence and started across the small pond in the front of the yard.
She stopped halfway, stiff. Sheyenne knew this feeling only way too well. The heaviness on the shoulders, the lack of breath, the hairs on her neck standing up.
She started to panic, feeling her heartbeat go faster. Sheyenne tried moving but it felt as if her feet were glued. She pushed herself harder chanting in her head. Get Amy, get out. Get Amy, get out. Get Amy, get out.
Her feet moved and finally she was across the pond. She ran around the house but stopped in her tracks. Amy sat there staring at a decomposing corpse. Not a human but a dog. Sheyenne could see the silent tears running down her friends face.
She crouched in front of Amy. “Amy, I need you to listen to me. We have got to go now.”
Amy shook her head, continuing to cry for the dog.
“Listen if we don't leave something worse will happen. Please we need to leave.” Sheyenne could feel the hair on her arms rising and her heart beating faster and faster every second. The heaviness was worse making it harder for her to move.
Amy sat for seconds looking at the dog then looked into Sheyenne's panicked face and nodded her head standing up. They started walking toward the pond.
Sheyenne looked toward the house and stopped once again in her tracks. In the window she saw a black figure. It looked like a man but the body was freakishly long like it was stretched out by it's arms and legs, its fingers like claws. Amy had already jumped the fence and was waiting for Sheyenne to do the same but Sheyenne was busy looking at the black figure.
She could see it moving towards her making her panic. It felt as if her heart was about to pound out of her chest, it left her almost gasping for air.
The figure moved slowly, closer and closer. Sheyenne’s breath came in faster and faster. All she could do is stare at it was getting closer.
She couldn't breath. Oh god, oh god, oh god. Sheyenne jerked her body trying to move her feet. She could feel the heaviness pulling her body down as little by little she moved her feet. Sheyenne felt a cold hand on her arm and wiped her head around. It was just Amy, she let out a breath.
“What are you doing just standing there like that? Let’s go.”
Sheyenne looked back, confused. The figure was gone. She moved her feet and jumped the fence with Amy, relief flooded her whole body and she relaxed. One thing she knew for sure. She would never forget what happened that day.
