RWBY: Tale of Two Roses

Chapter 9: Saying Goodbye

Summer and Qrow take the two upstairs. Ruby refuses to look at either of them and keeps her gaze at the floor. "Yang, this is gonna be hard for you to hear but..."

"Let me guess, you're finally growing a pair and admitting that you're Ruby's dad?" Everyone's eyes go wide and look straight at her. "Well it's not exactly hard to put together. Still have a ton of memories from when I was a kid. I remembered you and Qrow being close, closer than my parents at least. I look at Ruby and I swear sometimes she almost sounds like Qrow. You both use scythes, you both are loyal to the death. And Qrow is the only one of the three of you with black hair."

"That's...very perceptive." Qrow compliments. "Should've expected that from my sister's daughter." Ruby clenches her fists, her gaze returned to the floor, tears again streaking down her face. "Why didn't you tell me!" Ruby runs swinging at Yang. Yang simply lets Ruby hit her. "You lied to me! Why did you never say anything!" Yang puts her arms around her. "Because that's not my job. Besides I didn't want to make life harder on you." Ruby starts crying into Yang's shoulder. Ruby backs up and wipes her eyes. Yang smiles and holds her pinkie out. "Sisters for life?" Ruby smiles and locks her pinkie in Yang's. "Sisters for life." They walk back downstairs to find Aries asleep on the wall. "Well he's brave, I'll give him that."

"Either he's brave or an idiot. Maybe a bit of both." Qrow says jokingly. Ruby sits next to him and takes his hand. "Yang, what do you remember from when we were kids."

"Hmm, well I remember that Aries wasn't much of a fighter. He just loved playing in the lavender fields. He always smelled like it. You and him were always running and playing together."

"And his brother?"

"His brother, ooh I remember him well. He was a pint sized bully. He always treated Aries like crap, but never when he knew I was around."

"Why's that?"

"Leo was always stronger than Aries was, faster too. So he was an easy target. But me, he was scared of me. One time I pinned him to the ground and held a lugi just above his face because he gave Aries a black eye."

"You're pretty protective."

"Well even back then you two were inseparable. It was cute, you even took naps together. So every time he hurt Aries you would come waddling in and doing your best to tell me what happened and I would go out there and beat the snot out of him. Man, I couldn't stand him." Yang takes a look at Aries. "Looks like he only ever got worse after we weren't there anymore." Ruby squeezes his hand and lays her head on his shoulder. Aries wakes up a little and sees Ruby there. He smiles and lays his head back. "So, how are you feeling?"

"Like I was hit by a semi." Yang laughs at his response. "Yeah my abs are a little sore too. He was quite the workout." Aries laughs and looks over at Yang. "Strange how time flies."

"Yet it seems to go in circles. I swear I remember you two falling asleep like this once. Only you had a storybook in your lap, doing your best to sound out the words before you just fell asleep." Aries smiles as he recounts the memory. "Now, how much ass kicking do I owe him?"

"None."

"B.S. I know you got those scars from him. Now spill the beans."

"Yeah, well. I gave him a good knocking, eventually."

"Good, nice to know you're standing up for yourself." Aries smiles and looks down at Ruby. Her breathing is slow and calm. She'd fallen asleep on his chest. Aries lets go of her hand and puts his arm around her. He lays his head back and relaxes. He let's off a subtle green glow as his aura kicks in to heal his wounds. "They're so adorable." Yang says as she gets to her feet. A loud rumble can be felt in the distance. Summer runs to the door and sees a fleet of airships She runs and grabs her saber. Yang noticing the panic wakes up Aries and Ruby. They all head outside and see the Grimm starting to flood the street. "Aries, you Qrow and Yang head to the White Fang, me and Ruby will focus on the Grimm." Aries looks worriedly at Ruby then nods. "Stay alive, little rose." Aries says with a smirk. He unfolds his scythe and takes to the air. Ruby nods and follows Summer to begin trying to handle the Grimm.
