My chestnut brown hair sprouted from every angle like an uneven bush. My pale skin even paler than the present day Snow White. The only admirable section of my face were my eyes. My eyes were never just one solid color. They would always appear blue, but rather more gray and at the same time a tint of green left in the mixture. My lips were left in a thin line.
"Well, it's not gonna get any better than that, Snow White," I quietly mumbled to myself. Besides, when you look like me, you'd probably say that was your biggest improvement yet. Fried eggs teased me from the kitchen and distracted me from one of my I-look-even-worse-than-the-Grinch thoughts. I trampled down the steps just trying to catch a whiff of the mouth watering scent. The light in the kitchen was lit dimly, but enough to make out my mother's silhouetted figure and a few facial features. Of course, I wasn't given her beautiful features. I was given the features on my dad's side. I suppose I'm being kinda selfish. I mean apart from beauty, I got fried eggs on a plate and a roof over my head. Something some people would give up everything for. At the pit of my stomach I felt guilt. Guilt was heavier than the heaviest rock, yet you could never manage to bear the weight.
"Did you sleep well?" my mother asked in her silky voice.
"Um...I woke up in the middle of the night from some random person honking their horn. Honestly, who honks their horn at one in the morning?" I replied furiously. She nodded her head in agreement. Before I realized it, the plate that used to hold a succulent fried egg was now just air...or possibly an invisible fried egg... I walked over to the sink and gently left the plate in the sink and politely thanked my mom for the meal. As I see it, people should thank their servers, even if their server is their awesome mom. I shrugged on my down jacket that I had received from my aunt. My mother kissed me on the cheek, I grabbed my backpack and headed out the door. On the top of the steps stood my best friend Emily on my antique-like bench. It made a horrible creak as Emily jumped in delight at the sight of me. I winced. As much as I loved that bench, I hated the irritable screech from it.
"Hey, whats up?" She asked cheerfully.
"Oh nothin'...except for the fact that you forgot to tell your mom about that sleepover..." I insinuated. I knew Emily like the back of my hand...although I don't know much about the back of my hand...Where in the world did they come up with that expression?
"Shoot! You're right!"
I shrugged and said that she should try that rubber band thing where you put a rubber band on your wrist to remind you stuff. She agreed to the idea and we began our long and tragic walk to school. We talked about how her brother knocked down that ancient vase of hers. Honestly, I didn't care, but I didn't want to tell her that, so I let her keep on talking about her annoying brother. I don't have a brother OR sister, so I have no clue what it's like to have one. As we reached the double doors to the entryway to the school, we ended our conversation with a "see ya at lunch." I walked through the endless hallways and eventually reached my locker. My locker isn't much, although I know Emily goes on full out decorations for her locker. My locker is just a plain old beige locker, but there is something about my locker that-
"Oh, hi, Sarah! I thought this was my locker! Whoops! Already put the decor!"
It really sucks when your enemy's locker is right next to yours...
