This whole little scene Max is fucking with Ian and shutting the door when he tries to talk. You can tell Ian's starting to have enough but he doesn't yell at max or anything, he let's him have his fun for a bit.

Even though he is somewhat fighting back, Ian isn't doing that much to Max. He could easily stand up and just punch Max for being so annoying but he's just playing along with him, it shows that Ian has a lot of leniency for Max because you know if someone else was doing this Ian wouldn't be this calm.
