Chapter 4

We stood across the street from Peggy's apartment back in 1983. It was weird being back there. I had already missed so much and now a close friend was gone and his son was left alone.

"Tony... did you ever meet him back then? well before Howard passed?"

"Once about three years prior to the time were in now. He was a nice boy and he deserved more than Howard."

"I don't understand."

"Steve Howard was never home for tony. It was either SHIELD work or looking for you."

"I need to tell him I'm sorry."

"You need to let time play out and you need to let them take me."

"No I can't do that. you wouldn't have lived your life with your family."

"But I do get the chance to live my life with you. Steve just let it go."

"I can't peggy."

She placed her hand on my face, "let it go."

"I kissed you seventy years ago. I woke up and they told me you died. I woke up and I was alone. I can't make you go through that like I did. Peggy I don't want you to lose your life like I did. I saw the pictures. You got married. Started a family and had two kids. Don't you want to go back?"

"I do. But not now. Not when I can be with you. he probably moved on. Wouldn't you?"

I looked away. It had been so long since the last time I saw Peggy and I hadn't moved on.

"You didn't move on."

"How could I?"

She wrapped her arms around me. I could feel her small fragile body squeeze me as hard as she could. When I placed my arms around her she almost jumped.

"Steve..."

"I fell in love with you. I still love you and I always will."

I could feel her smile against my chest before she looked up to me.

"I was ready to give up. But when the news said they found you I started to have hope again. Not for the old life but for a new one with you. I don't want to go back. I just want to be with you. That's all that matters."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

She grabbed onto the straps on my uniform then she pulled me down and kissed me. It had been our second kiss in 70 years. Despite everything and the time we were sent to.

"I assume that if we don't stop the events from unfolding then will fade away."

"Ok."

I watched her look around.

"We've been walking for hours Steve. Where are you taking us?"

We turned the corner And ended up in front of the stork club. When I looked down at her I watched her eyes light up.

"Sorry I'm late."

She looked at me with a tear in her eye, "you and I are together now. That's all that matters."

I took her hand then we walked into the stork club.
