Jordan shut her locker and zipped up her backpack. She winced as she put her backpack on. Every muscle in her body ached from a grueling morning track practice. Coach had made them run sprints until the entire team puked their guts out.

"Hey Jordan!" A familiar voice called out. Jordan turned around and saw that it was her boyfriend Tanner. He weaved through a dorky group of freshmen to catch her.

He greeted her with a small peck on the cheek. "How was your morning practice?"

"It was hell." Jordan shifted her backpack as they began to walk to homeroom. "Evening practice should be a blast too."

"Are you going to come to my game tonight? Hopefully your practice won't cause you to miss it. Like last time." Tanner always made little jabs. The low blows were because she had missed one of his games for a track practice.

"I told you, I'll be there." Jordan promised, Tanner was always like this before a big game.

"Are you gonna wear my jersey? It's senior recognition night. You should."

Jordan had almost forgotten. Of course it was senior rec night on the most anticipated game of the year. Lockhaven was going up against Ravenwood. Those high schools had been rivals since practically the ice age.

"Of course I am. It's still in my closet from when you first let me wear it." She told Tanner as they walked in Mr. Cole's classroom. Mr. Cole was sitting at his desk reading the newspaper. He hadn't noticed that the two of them had came into homeroom late.

"Don't forget after the game the boys want to get wings."

"I won't forget."

After another miserable track practice, Jordan showered and changed for the football game. Even though track season wasn't until the spring her coach insisted they trained all year. She went downstairs and waited for her friend, Taylor, to pick her up. Taylor was her best friend. They'd been running together since elementary school. Ever since the day they first met, they've been inseparable.

She remembered the first day they met. It was the first day of second grade, she met Taylor during a high-stakes game of hopscotch at recess. All of the second graders were using their webkins as a form of currency. A horn honked snapping Jordan out of her daydream. Jordan shouted a goodbye to her parents and ran out to Taylor's car.

She quickly got into her friends car. "Are you ready for this game?" Taylor asked as she sped off to Lockhaven's football field.

"Yes, I just hope we win. Tanner isn't in the best of moods after a bad game. But who would be?"

"It's okay Caleb gets like that sometimes too. He won't talk much to me after." Caleb was one of Tanner's best friends. He started dating Taylor about a month ago.

Once the car was parked, the two girls walked into the stadium and bought tickets. Both were clad in their boyfriends' jerseys. Senior rec went through fairly quickly, but Jordan made sure to cheer on Tanner and take pictures of him on the field with his parents.

The game was fairly close the entire time. Jordan and Taylor were in the front of the fan section hyping up the crowd. By the last half of the game, the score was tied. Both teams had a score of twenty eight.

There was only thirty seconds left in the game and everyone was screaming their heads off. A few of the boys that were standing next to Jordan got kicked out of the bleachers. One of them had spit down on a player while the other was smoking on school property. She was pretty sure the one was smoking was in her economics class. His name was Jaxson.

"Fuck!" Taylor screamed as a Ravenwood player had made a touchdown. The Lockhaven fan section shouted various profanities. Most of the students left in an angry hurry. A bunch of angry teenage drivers wasn't going to end well.

Taylor and Jordan also left the fan section in a hurry. They wanted to catch their boyfriends before they left to get wings. They both doubted the boys would get wings after the massive loss they took tonight.

Taylor and Jordan stood by the locker room entrance in silence. All of the boys came out of the locker room with scowls on their faces. Jordan was sure she could've heard a pin drop. Both girls knew that meant they weren't going to get wings. She would have to go to Tanner's house with him and calm him down. He never took a loss lightly.

Tanner and Caleb greeted the girls. Caleb greeted Taylor with a sweaty hug. "We'll see you guys Monday!" Taylor said as she grabbed Caleb's hand and led him away from the locker room.

"Tanner, you did good. I know you guys wanted to win badly, but you still did amazing."

Tanner scoffed. "We lost Jordan. That means we weren't good enough."

"Don't be so hard on yourself," Jordan grabbed her boyfriends hand. "Let's go back to your house. We still get wings if you want."

"Wings don't fucking matter right now, Jordan." Tanner hissed.

They walked to Tanner's car in silence. Something about Tanner tonight was making Jordan uneasy. Once they both got in the car Tanner broke the silence.

"Why do you think losing is okay?"

"Tanner, I don't. I don't understand what-"

"Fuck Jordan!" Tanner shouted. He slammed his hands against the steering wheel of his car.

Jordan jumped, she had never seen her boyfriend act like this. "Tanner I don't think you should be so hard on yourself."

She put her hand on his shoulder. She then cupped her boyfriend's face in her hands. Although his disheveled hair was covering his eyes, she could still see his angry brown eyes.

"You don't need to get so angry. You have every right to be upset. I'm just saying-" Tanner ripped Jordan's hands off of his face. He was crushing both of her hands. He kept squeezing tighter and tighter.

"Tanner! What the hell!" Jordan tried pulling her hands away but Tanner was too strong.

Tanner continued to crush both of Jordan's hands but then he let go. He started his car and placed his hands on the steering wheel. He sat there for what felt like an eternity to Jordan. He then turned towards her and slapped her hard across the mouth.

"Don't you ever speak like that to me." Tanner growled, his eyes darkening.

Jordan's heart was about to explode out of her chest. Her throbbing hands immediately flew to where he had slapped her. She was in shock-she didn't know what to do. She just sat there. All she knew was that she wasn't about to cry. Jordan took a deep breath and prepared herself for the rest of the night.

He probably didn't mean to do that. Right? Maybe it was just his anger from the football game. She was sure her boyfriend would never hit her on purpose. He loved her too much to do such a thing. Didn't he?
