"What did your parents get you?" Arabella Richards squealed. Rose Jordan shrugged. "Just a new notebook. It's nothing special."
"What's wrong?" Arabella frowned. She always knew when her best friend was upset. "Are you just sad about the notebook?"
Rose shook her head. "No. It's just that...remember when I begged Mom and Dad to tell me what happened to my biological parents?"Arabella nodded.
"They told me how they died yesterday. It ruined my birthday!" Rose groaned.
Arabella was curious. "But how exactly did they die?"
Rose rolled her eyes. "You know, it's not a fun thing for me to think about my parents. But anyway, Dad said they were murdered by someone. But the murderer hasn't been caught yet."
"The police really aren't doing their job, are they? It's been like, 13 years already!"
"14! Remember? It was my birthday yesterday!"
"Sorry."
The girls sat in silence, staring at the sunset as they lay together in the soft green grass.
Arabella suddenly jumped to her feet, breaking
the silence, "Maybe we could act like detectives and... I dunno, find the murderer or something! This could be our shot to fame! Imagine us in the TV, the front page of the newspapers... We could be heroes!"Rose shook her head sadly. " How can we find the murderer if the even the police can't? We're just kids! Plus, it's too risky. I don't want to die getting revenge!"
"Please?" Arabella begged. "It'll be really fun!"
"Seriously?! That's your idea of fun? It's not like they're even your parents or anything!"
"Whatever. We'll start finding clues tomorrow — I'm too tired now," Arabella yawned, getting to her feet.
"I'm going home now, see you tomorrow!"Before Rose could even open her moth to answer, Arabella was gone.
