The night was coming to a close. She had already left him after exchanging numbers and flirtatious goodbyes. He stood at his seat, absolutely appalled at not only how beautiful she was physically, but how beautiful she was inside.
Yeah, she was pretty, but that's not what drew him to her. It was the fact that however wrecked she was internally, she was able to put on a genuine smile. She could find a way to laugh at anything, whatever it was. She was just a positive person.
He asked for his bill and took a seat again, still fully awed at how she kept her demons from everyone else without looking suspicious. He wondered if he could ever be able to do that. That's what was worst about his life. It wasn't the abuse, oh no. It was about making his best effort to conceal his issues behind closed doors, every day.
To say the least, it was probably the hardest thing in his life. His elementary school was unaware, as was his high school. They were completely oblivious. If they found out, they would've had his mom arrested a long time ago, not that there was any evidence. She created bruises where it was the least noticeable, though it didn't make much of a difference.
They scheduled days to hang out, as often and as long as they could. It was especially important to him to spend as little time at his own home as possible. Plus, he didn't want to leave her anyway. He knew about her problems, some of them at least.
They slowly began to gain each other's trust, though it took a while. This was how it all began. They met at school, though they never really had a full conversation with each other. Typically, it was just the quick "hello" or "excuse me".
Now, they exchanged extravagant words among themselves, not giving a damn about who heard them. They could go to hell anyway.
They were polar opposites. She laughed quite loudly and with such confidence that he would never have. He, however, laughed more quietly, trying his best to not draw attention to himself. He got into a lot of trouble with kids at school, while she was more of a goody-two-shoes. You would think they would hate each other, but it was on the contrary. They loved each other. A lot.
But that all changed
