recap:
"Dammit!" Theia said, fixing her hair while muttering under her breath. "Oh he's so freakin' dead next time I see him"; "just you wait Salvatore". Ric chuckled at her, causing her to start laughing as well.
It truly was the beginning of a friendship, wasn't it?
. . .
"So, how come I've never heard of you?" Alaric implored the girl, neither noticing Jenna who was listening to their conversation.
Theia sighed, shrugging, "I'm not that special or anything. I was adopted by Miranda and Grayson when Jenna found me. She's always been the mom I've never had.
"It's not that Miranda and Grayson didn't love me, it's just... It wasn't the kind of parent love. Just, an appreciation I suppose." She mused thoughtfully. "Jenna was the one who was a mother to me, even if we didn't see each other everyday.
"Long phone calls, silly postcards... " She smiled fondly. "She's the best thing I could ask for. Now," She looked at him seriously, "She's been through hell, Ric, and I can't bear to see her lose someone else. Not after Elena and Jer's parents, or her stupid exes.
"She needs someone who will be honest with her, to protect her even when it's hard. Even when you can't defend yourself. She needs her epic love, and I can tell it's you."
"I won't hurt her, Theia." He said to her seriously, "I... After I lost my wife, I didn't think I'd find anyone again. But Jenna..." He smiled, "I love her."
Theia smiled at him, "Good."
"I'm like your mom?" Jenna's voice cracked, Theia whipping around to see her aunt. The tips of Theia's ears flamed pink. The last thing she expected was for Jenna to hear Theia call her her surrogate mother.
Jenna grinned tearfully at Theia, "Come here."
The two girls hugged tightly, Ric smiling at the two of them. He saw the relationship he could have had with Isobel in front of him, a child they could have had, a life they could have shared together - blissfully ignorant of the existence of vampires and werewolves.
Theia pulled away and squeezed her aunt's hands, "Oh! I went out and got an official application for a job, by the way. It seems all those years of counseling at that boarding school is coming in handy."
Jenna beamed proudly at her. "I knew you could do it! When are you going to tell me where you're trying to work?"
