The fluttering of pages was all that can be heard from around the library, not like I cared much. It was quiet and that's all that really mattered in my head. Ed Sheeran played through my headphones as I scribbled what closely resembled a face. Though this face had dark bruises and cuts covering most of the skin around the eyes. This was my normal.
As I shaded and sketched peacefully inside of the library I hummed the tune of the music as softly as humanly possible. This of course was normal too. Seeing as my home life made it so that talking above a whisper was necessary and all that was needed.
Fast paced footsteps raced towards me as rubber hit the hard concrete with a solid thump. The school never really decided to replace this after the fire back in '09 since some crackheads decided to light it up near the nonfiction section. That was probably the biggest thing that had happened around here since the invention of sliced bread.
Someone quickly jabbed me in the shoulder with either a finger or a pencil, which in return causes me to squeak out some sort of noise that even I cant explain. "What the hell?" I turned around in my seat whispering as quietly as possible, so that only the culprit of which had poked me could hear. As soon as I turned around I saw that it was my friend Chloe Miles. What? I signed irritated that she had so rudely poked me in the shoulder. It still kinda hurt. Of course I always end up cutting her some slack since she can't really hear me. She's deaf anyways.
See I met Chloe at one of those ASL classes back when Syd was learning how to communicate with everyone. Syds my little sister by the way, shes hard of hearing but she isn't completely deaf, she can only hear rhythms though. But basically I met Chloe when I was like seven or so and we've been best friends ever since. Pretty cool huh?
You need to come with me now. Its important. She signed furiously at me while also seemingly holding back tears. Without a word I followed her as she showed a note that had her name and mine to the study hall teacher. She pulled me into the hall and down the corridor. Damn was she fast, no wonder she was a track star.
Soon we arrived at the cafeteria which was kinda odd since Chlo and I have lunch together at one and it was only twelve. As soon as she pushed open those doors, I knew something was wrong. And sure as hell there across the room laid Dakota propped against the wall. Right next to him there was a boy with blonde hair holding an ice pack gently to his eye.
I ran over to Kota and about blew my shit. "What the hell happened?" I said about as loud as I could be with my soft toned voice. He looked up and smiled at Chlo and I. "Sam you shoulda saw't." Starting to sit up his eyes seemed to sparkle. "There was this dude making fun of Smith and so I told him't knock it the hell off and he punched me!" I looked at him "And why in the hell is that a good thing?" He laughed and said "Well he was kinda cute so It was fine."
"How the hell does that make it fine?!" I yelled as he continued laughing. The boy with the blonde hair had snuck out in all the commotion so I couldn't even question him. Wait what happened? Looking back at her I signed Dakota is seriously the dumbest person here.
