"So, I was basically dead for a month, and in that time, I missed zero school?" Janelle asked, incredulously.

"Yup," I replied, "And in my depression, I didn't have to go to school at all."

"Okay, is there any silver lining to this whole deal?" Janelle asked, "I mean, I missed zero school? I thought the song was wake me up when September ends, not August."

"Would you rather be dead?" I asked, me being the incredulous one.

"What? It was peaceful!" Janelle protested.

"Wait. You remember what happened when you were basically dead?" I asked. Janelle's face suddenly darkened and her eyes widened.

"Let's talk about something else," Janelle said, shaking her head, "It's our senior year! We're gonna be the kings of the school! And almost all of your old bullies have graduated!"

"And the rest of them I can blast away with my arm," I finished, "Yes, life is good."

"Ready?" Janelle asked as we stepped up to the door of Mission Creek High.

"You betcha," I said, and we entered the school.

At first, everything seemed low key enough. People strolling the hallways, playing on their phones, and putting things in their lockers. Perry, who had taken the security guard position on the island before we stopped using it, had been replaced before she could come back to Mission Creek. And no one was making any moves to reinstate her.

We started towards our lockers, and that's when someone finally noticed us.

"Hey!" he shouted, and we turned to him, as did pretty much everyone else, "You're not dead!"

"They're not dead!" another girl shouted, and everyone started cheering suddenly.

"What is going on?" Janelle asked, uncertain of the situation. I was just as clueless as she was.

"Dude, we all thought you two were dead," another guy tried to explain, "It was all over the internet how you two stopped an android invasion, only to be caught in an explosion! Which is so much cooler now that you actually survived!"

"Go science?" Janelle replied uncertainly.

"I'm Max by the way," the guy said. He had dirty blonde hair and was wearing a Dingo football jersey. I started connecting the dots.

"Oh yeah," I mused, "Weren't you some big shot quarterback before you completely blew your ankle?"

"Yep," Max said, "But thanks to you, I'm actually better than I used to be."

"I'm sorry, what?" I asked, completely dumbfounded, "Is this some sort of prank?"

"No, you're my idol man," Max said, "When your arm was crushed by a ceiling beam, you became a bionic hero who ended up replacing the original trio! With everything you've gone through, I figured that walking again was completely achievable."

"Really?" I asked.

"You're right, that did sound really rehearsed," Max admitted, "You're a cool dude."

"Thanks," I said, "For some big shot quarterback, you're not so bad yourself."

"Alright lover boy, you have a girlfriend, remember," Janelle snapped playfully, grabbing my arm and dragging me, "And a class to get to. Good seein' you Max! Leo, you have feet, use 'em."

A Couple Months Later

"Okay. That was epic!" I exclaimed.

"No. That was epic!" Max exclaimed back.
