Lauren's POV
It's been a month since everything happened and Camila moved into a different room. I only ever see her when we have lessons or practice for the House Cup.
Speaking of which, today is the House Cup competition.
I'm extremely nervous and Dixson knows it. He's been nervous too. He acts up and kicks. It's not fun. He's thrown me once or twice too but I've been fine. I just hope it doesn't happen today.
Camila on the other hand looks all calm and collected, which frustrates me because she makes everything seem easy. Even cutting me and the other girls out of her life.
We were getting our horses ready for the competition. All classes had been cancelled for this day and then for the dance later tonight.
"She misses you." Dinah says as she moves over to me.
I turned to look at her before shaking my head and looking back at Dixson.
"Are you sure you don't have feelings for her?" Dinah asks me, frowning slightly.
I nodded. I hadn't been doing very much talking to the girls. I spoke to Dixson a lot and to my teachers but that's really it.
"So basically you strung her along?" She asks me, frowning more.
I frowned, turning to her. "No!" I snapped. "I didn't." My voice was croaky and sore.
Dixson sensed the change in my attitude and turned his head, with his ears back against his neck, nipping me gently on the arm to remind me to behave myself.
"Lauren, you were all over her." Dinah responds, rolling her eyes.
"No I wasn't. I was being friendly." I snapped before running out of Dixson's stall and away from Dinah. It was all getting too much for me. The competition. Camila. Dinah's pressure. She blames me for Camila switching rooms.
Miss Granger appeared in front of me. "Hey, I just wanted to let you know, I finally remembered why I knew your name. Your mother used to be captain of the Abby House and she won us the cup."
I stared at her blankly, too lost in thought.
She smiles at me before squeezing my arm and walking off.
I turned. "What did you say?" I called after her.
"Your mother used to be captain of the Abby House and she won us the cup." She calls back.
I frowned. "When?"
"Back when she was your age." Miss Granger responds with a soft smile.
I looked down at my hands. I never thought I'd have so much in common with my mother.
****
Oh god, it's time for the competition and Camila hasn't even looked at me.
I can't stop shifting nervously. Juniors are up first so at least it gets it out of the way.
"Up first, Camila Cabello from Abby House." The announcer calls out.
I watched Camila go into the arena and jump a flawless round with Maya. It's a shame Shadow wasn't better, they would have smashed it right out of the park.
"Go Mila!" Dinah screamed from the stands.
Camila completed her round with no faults and now it was my turn. I was so not ready for this.
"You've got this." Camila says softly as she passes me on Maya.
I glanced up at her and nodded, rubbing Dixson's shoulder. I got up on him and we went in. I had already warmed him up before the competition.
"Next up, Lauren Jauregui, also from Abby House." The announcer calls out.
We jumped our round, rubbing a few poles but luckily none of them fell.
It wasn't long before the rest of the team and other teams competed and they were tallying the points.
I ran my hand down Dixson's neck. "Hopefully." I whispered in his ear.
"And the winner of the House Cup is the Abby House!" The announcer says excitedly.
My eyes widened in surprise.
"Oh my god!" Elaine yelled, throwing her arms around her house.
Camila stepped back and took a deep breath, her head down.
"Could the representatives of Abby House come and collect their trophy and get their photograph taken." The announcer said.
Camila disappeared, causing me to frown.
The rest of the team was already up collecting the trophy.
Biting my lip, I move over to the team.
"Where's your other juniors?" The headmaster asked.
"Lauren's here." Elaine says with a smile before looking at me. "Where did Camila go?"
I shrugged. "I don't know."
"Can you try to find her?" The headmaster asks.
"Um... Okay." I nodded sheepishly before walking away.
Camila was in the barn with Shadow when I found her, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Camila?" I asked quietly, stopping by the door.
Looking up, Camila wipes her eyes and looks at me. "What?"
"You need to come collect the House cup and get a photo taken." I said.
Taking a deep breath, Camila shakes her head. "I can't."
"Why not?" I asked cautiously.
Sitting up fully, she lifts up her shirt slightly to reveal a dark discoloration. "I fell off of Maya earlier while practicing."
"And?" I asked.
"I think it's internal bleeding." She responds quietly.
"Why didn't you tell a teacher? That would have been the smart thing to do." I said.
The younger girl doesn't respond.
"Camila?" I asked.
"I didn't want to seem weak." She finally breathes out.
"You should have told someone." I said. "This is bad. You have to go to the hospital."
"Why do you care?" Camila responds, not looking at me.
"Because, I care." I responded.
"No you don't." Camila responds roughly.
I took a step back. "Fine, whatever you say." I said before I turned to walk away.
"If you cared, you wouldn't have broken my heart." The younger girl says softly.
"I don't love you that way and I can't help that." I snapped, stopping in the doorway.
Standing up slowly, Camila takes a deep breath and walks over to me. Pulling me close and kissing me.
I froze in shock. Eventually I found the strength to pull away. "What the hell?" I yelled, taking a step back.
Tears fill her eyes and she moves back over to her horse, climbing onto her back after putting on the saddle. "I never should've stayed." She says before taking off on Shadow who was healed more.
I stood in shock, watching her ride off. She'd just stolen my first kiss without my permission.
