Kol
"Kol! Get your ass up if you want to get to NYU before graduation. We need to fit you into one of the careers! Let's go." Iris keeps pounding on my door, waking me up from actually sleep from the first time in months. I am slightly pissed at the fact that she has been snapping my neck for three months. "I'm coming you little twit." I speed out of bed, pulling the door open as she tries to hit it again. Her eyes trail down to look at my chest, I tend to sleep in just my boxers. "Like what you see darling?" Iris's head snaps away from me and towards the ceiling, covering her eyes with her hand. Laughter erupts from us both, peace has finally been reached between us. "Go get dressed you old man, we have things to do." Iris pushes me back into my room, slamming the door shut.
I walk out into the living room with black jeans, white t-shirt, and my black leather jacket. Our shoes remain in front of the door, Iris is weird that way. She is dressed in a simple long black dress, hitting her knees. "Conservative much? I pegged you as more of a leather jacket type like myself, weren't you wearing one when we met?" Iris completely ignores me, grabbing to coffee mugs off of the counter. "Drink up, this is all we get until tonight. I have been trying to use less blood, so I found the perfect amount. One cup in the morning and one at night. I say get a human meal in between blood, get drunk if you want but not on the job. I am going to get you a cab to campus, compel as much as you have to until you get your degree. Pick a job you might actually like." Iris hands me the mug in the middle of her ramble, down her's at the end. "Let's go, I have to get to the vet." Iris pushes me out of the apartment, into the hallway.
Iris locks the door behind her before handing me a set of keys, "This is the building key, house key, and safe key. The safe has things that you can use to 'defend' yourself if needed. It is-" Iris glances at her phone, "7 now, I am getting out for lunch at 12:30 if you want to meet up. The offices at NYU opens at 8, you have an hour to get there. My number is added on your phone, it is just Iris. I'll see you either at lunch or tonight when I get home, bye." Iris speeds past me, down the stairs leaving me alone. I quickly stroll onto the street, passing by the basement door. I don't miss that place, got to love the fresh air of New York.
I must have wandered randomly for a bit before a vibrate comes from my pocket.
I stop at a bench nearby, sitting down relaxing as people and cars pass me by. I glance up to the side of me, seeing a hot dog cart, getting the perfect response.
I pull out my wallet, buying a coffee from the hot dog guy. I begin walking towards a parked cab when my vibrates again. I'll ignore it for a minute, I know it is Iris. I hop into the cab and the guy looks up from his phone. "Where to?" I grab my wallet from my pocket. "NYU office buildings, please." He grunts out in response before starting the cab, I turn my phone back on to see Iris's response.
I didn't know how to respond, what does she mean? "Sir, do you understand women of this age?" My cab drivers just shake his head, "Son, the only person who understands women is them, sometimes not even them." I just begin to type away, not even thinking until it was too late.
My heart pings as I typed her name, I sent it before I could erase the entire name. Memories are hitting me hard today, I'm trying to move on. I have too, I'm going to be human for a while.
Time flies by, I get to campus at 7:50. Traffic was a bitch, but I have to be human. I open my phone to click on Iris, but I accidentally hit Bekah. I still haven't spoken to her since I left, I need to call her.
I rush to the main office entrance, sitting outside till 8 o'clock passes. I walk into to met a old lady working the desk. "Hello? My name is Kol Micheals, I was told to stop by today?" Iris apparently did some compelling yesterday while I was playing with all the photos of fake me, they were convincing. "Yes, Mr. Micheals. There was some issue with getting your degree, it says you took all but your main class online. Is that correct?" I nod my head at her, feeling her eyes trying to pierce through my shirt. I understand I'm attractive but at least have some manners for students. "Okay, I just needed to get that done. I'm sorry you had to miss your graduation ceremony. Now, you are officially a graduate of early childhood education, congrats, I know you'll make a perfect kindergarten teacher. Have a good day and good luck on Monday with your new job." Teacher? Do I have to work with children? I give her a tight smile before walking hastily out of her office, Iris made me a teacher. I don't know anything about kids, I hate them. I make my way down the campus path, heading my way to Iris's office. My phone rings and I answer it without looking at the name. "I'm going to kill you." I huff out but freeze as a gasp occurs from the other side. "Kol?" "Bekah?"
