Watching The Storm

"WHY ARE THEY OUT HERE?"

"NAMJOON SAID THEY'LL COME OVER!"

"WHAT ABOUT JUNGKOOK AND JIN-HYUNG?"

Watching the confused and frustrated BTS members shoot questions at one another was all Sana could do at this moment. She knew they couldn't afford to just stand around, but the way Dahyun clung to her with trembling hands made her legs, her whole body, feel even heavier.

"We've got no choice! Go that way, GO!" The man she recognised as Hoseok pointed wildly. He pulled Sana and Dahyun along. "Stay together!"

Sana stumbled awkwardly at first but adrenaline kick-started her muscles into working again.

She kept her eyes on the broad backs of the boys. Follow them! Follow them and we'll be okay! –

Mina screamed.

Sana instantly turned around for her. She was on the ground close by, her face twisted into a grimace, trying with much effort to get up on her hands and knees. "Mina!"

People just ran past her like she was nothing.

No one stopped to help.

No one cared for another life but their own.

Sana just couldn't believe it.

She ran towards her, oblivious to Dahyun's cries of her own name, pushing past other survivors who threatened to knock her off her feet in their frenzied panic.

She was nearly there. Mina looked up at her with watery eyes.

Sana didn't notice a zombie was almost on her until a bat swung close to her face. She stopped in her tracks and a large hand pushed her away.

"What are you doing? Keep running!" Taehyung yelled at her while keeping the zombie at bay.

"But –"

Her eyes found Mina again. This time someone ran towards her from behind, limbs twitching and blood spilling from its crooked mouth.

No. Sana tried to fight the cold fist gripping her heart. She heard someone screaming. Her throat felt so sore.

She realised then that she was the one screaming all along.

"MINA BEHIND YOU!"

Mina looked back.

It's too late. Sana started running again. No, it's too late! –

Something black struck the zombie and sent it crashing into the ground. Before Sana could reach Mina, someone else rushed forward from the opposite direction to pull her up.

"T-Tzuyu!"

Sana felt a hand on her arm. "She's okay! They'll be okay! Come on!" Taehyung pulled her away, narrowly avoiding a zombie that lunged at them. She looked over her shoulder. Mina and Tzuyu had already started running away, their forms getting smaller and slowly disappearing in the crowd.

Her stomach clenched at the sight.

Sana and Taehyung tried to catch up with the others who were already a good distance away. They passed by the hotel entrance again and Sana turned to catch a glimpse of it.

People were trying to get out.

Shadows moved violently behind the shaking tinted glass doors stained with blood. Dozens of hands hammered at the glass from inside. Screams tore through the air – screams of desperation and terror, so primal and human they consumed her like a wildfire.
