~Lorelei's P.O.V~
I sigh heavily, glancing over at Marisol. It still surprises me every time I look at her, knowing she’s possibly my twin. No, scratch that, she has to be. There is no coincidental in the fact that she looks identical to me. Sure, there are some minor differences, but if you put us in the same outfit and set us side by side, you would have a pretty hard time figuring out who is who. Unless Marisol were to say something cocky, that is.
Overall, after narrowly escaping from the building, Marisol, Darwin and I have been walking aimlessly. Who knows where we’re going. I sure as hell don’t. I’ve kind of been used to relying on other people to help me. Being on my own isn’t what I’m used to.
“So, where are you from?” I ask, trying to start a conversation.
She ignores me, picking up her pace a little. I look away.
“I’m going to need a weapon.” I say, again trying to get some kind of reaction out of her.
She shrugs. “And that’s my problem, how?”
I shake my head a little. “Look, I can tell you’re obviously annoyed that you’re stuck with me, but could you at least be a little nicer about it.”
“Stuck with you?” She laughs. “Please, I saved your ass. Without me you’d be dead. I don’t have to stick around.”
I let the atmosphere lapse into silence. Well, if she doesn’t want to talk about herself, then maybe she’ll at least listen to me talk. I mean, doesn’t she want to know me? I know we’re kind of in a tight situation, being in a Zombie Apocalypse and all, but she’s all I have and I’m all she has, besides Darwin of course.
I debate on saying anything when she suddenly grabs my arm and pulls me with her behind a broken down car. Up the road is a group of Zombies hovering over a male. He’s still alive, from what I can tell. I quickly turn to look at Marisol, but she’s already moving, a plan obviously already in her head.
Without thinking, I look around and grab a metal bar, following her. I won’t let any of them hurt Marisol, regardless if she likes me or not. She’s my family. She’s connected to me, and she’s the only person I have left.
She ducks behind a car, closer to the male. The flesh eating monsters are just kind of standing there, looking down at the male. I wonder what they’re doing, and why they haven’t attacked him yet.
Then I see. He’s distracting them. And they seem to buy it, staring at his tricks with curiosity and amusement at the same time. I look over to see Marisol rolling her eyes. Why isn’t she doing anything? I lift myself up from my kneeling position and rush at the zombies, hitting on with my metal bar.
“Lorelei” Marisol shouts in annoyance.
Nonetheless, she appears by my side and starts bashing the hell out of the monsters. The boy, apparently deeming us harmless for the moment, jumps in and together the three of us take out the group. By the time all the monsters have fallen, I’m covered in blood and gore. I gag, looking up quickly to meet the boy’s eyes.
Despite being covered in blood and looking a mess, he’s incredibly handsome. Dark blue eyes and a long face framed by sandy blonde hair. He’s tall and muscular, but also kind of sweet and geeky. I smile at him, feeling a blush heat up on my cheeks.
“What the hell did you think you were doing?” Marisol snaps, gripping my arm.
“I was helping him, unlike you.” I snap back, feeling myself tremble a little.
I’ve seen Marisol fight zombies, and this girl knows how to fight. I don’t want to be her next victim, but I have a feeling I will be anyway.
She sighs and let’s go. “Whatever, come on.”
“What about him?” I ask.
“The name is Cole.” He says, his voice deep and husky.
I shiver when he speaks and look over at Marisol. She shakes her head.
“I’m not a charity. I don’t take in people.”
“Please? Please Marisol.”
Cole chuckles. “I can take care of myself, but thank you miss.”
“Lorelei.” I say, holding out my hand.
He smiles brightly at me, taking my hand. “Lorelei. Well, I hope to possibly see you again the future. Don’t get eaten, alright?”
I sigh and nod. “Okay, be safe.”
I walk towards Marisol and she sighs. “If I let him come, will you stay out of my hair?”
I nod, and smile brightly. “Cole!” I wave him over. “You can come with us.”
He grins. “Thanks!”
I turn to Marisol and hug her unexpectedly. “Thanks, Marisol” I say softly before letting go of her and heading off to get Darwin.
Maybe this whole idea of having a twin won’t be so bad.
