Chapter Six
"Ready for patrol," I said to my friend. He was also the son of our packs beta so it's a good thing we get along. It makes things easier on both the pack and ourselves.
He looked my way and crossed his arms. "Really dude. I was born ready. Rather run a patrol then help clean the bathrooms like I did last week. I mean seriously. What did the cooks put in the chili that day. Pew."
"Hahaha. Should have brought your nose plugs with you."
"I needed more than nose plugs. A gas mask just might have sufficed."
"Whats taking Kosan and Kierce so long. I guess they want to miss the bonfire tonight. I guess we'll need to have our fill of s'mores some other time," I said, a smirk growing on my face as I began counting down with my fingers. 3. 2. 1....
"Come on," Kosan called as he ran pass.
"What's taking you two so long," Kierce added.
Me and Jaxon shared a laugh, bending over and holding our stomachs from laughing so hard. Shaking each other out of the laughing fit, we took of at a jog after the two. Nearing the treeline, we all shifted as I leaped into the lead.
"So yesterday we ran the Eastern perimeter of the territory. Hoping you guys prepared for a run. Hoping to go over the outskirts of what we did yesterday Starting from the bottom and working our way around the Western edge to the top," I said the the other three through the link.
"These paws were made for running Eve," Kierce replied jokingly of to one side.
"Har har har. Then you better keep up this time," I chuckled as I lead the group eastward.
Under the pines, it was shady and few degrees colder.
"I bet you're happy for all my fur"
"Oh, shush up weirdo," I thought to my wolf. He's great and all, but can be a bit of a doofus when he wants to. There are times I think he has two personalities or something. What's it called... um. Dissociative identity disorder or something.
"Ev, watch out," Jaxon said from my side.
Looking up, I jumped around a tree. "Thanks for the warning Jax. These dumb asses would have let me ran into that tree and fallen to the ground laughing," I said in gratitude to jax as our pace slowed to a fast walk. I didn't want to admit it, but it really would have been funny I guess.
"But you still love us," they claimed together as Kosan playfully bumped into my side.
"What had you so out of it anyway dude," Jaxon spoke up after a wolfish laugh at the twins of trouble.
In the corner of my eyes I saw a smirk spread across each of the twins faces as they fell back till they were out of my view.
"I think I know," Kierce said in a sing song voice as leaped to walk at one side.
Kosan leaped to me other side. "Catching a bit of the mateless blues maybe," Kosan continued.
"Oh great," I thought, "what are they planning now."
Once I finished that thought they made their move. They both leaned up against my sides, walking forward. Crossing in front of my face, winking as they crossed. Their tails swiped across my face. Walking back towards me they licked each side of my face.
"You two need some help," I responded, shaking my head to get the slobber off.
"Awe, come on," Kierce began.
"You know you like it," Kosan finished.
"Um.... no."
"You sure, I bet you like me better. Right Eve," the two spoke at the same time, batting there opposite two-toned eyes.
I rolled my eyes. Off to the side I saw Jaxon laughing. "Come on, help me out." I said pleadingly.
"Sorry E, I think your on your own this time."
"Awe, seriously," I said plopping down.
"How cutee. The big bad alpha is pouting," the twins said. Kierce stepped forward and booped my nose.
"Alright, alright guys. That's enough fun and games for now. Let's go finish our patrol."
Kosan was the first to follow me. "Why do you always run our fun Everett."
"Guys, we gotta fear the floof," Kierce said from behind me. Looking back at him with a glare, he began bowing down to me. "All hail his floofiness." he chanted out.
We all laughed as we returned to running. By now, we were nearing the eastern boarder. "Ok guys. Stay alert. It patrol time."
"Gotcha." "Aye aye Alpha Floofball." "Gotcha." I heard called in response behind me. My eyes rolled at Kierces weirdness, and lead the tree along the border.
"So," I heard Jax call from behind me.
"Was their a certain someone you were thinking about. Sora maybe. No, I bet it was Lakila." Kierce continued, louder than jax as he was closer.
"Shut up," I responded coldly, putting my nose to the air. Taking in the pine scented air, I caught the scent of one that was out of place.
"Oh, we must have been right somewhere, think one of them is your ma-"
I stopped. Turning around, I growled and walked closer to him. "Neither of them are my mate. Lakila is just a pompous fool who wants the title and power of being luna. She's snobby, annoying, and arrogant." Taking a breath, I calmed down. Lakila is always flaunting her way around me and the guys in the hopes one of us will be her mate. She's been a pain in the neck since we all turned eighteen. With my anger gone, I continued. "Sorry for snapping on you guys. I'll admit, your sister is nice and was a big help for healing us up after the one battle, but it would be awkward since she is your sister after all. I've kinda seen her as a sister myself since she and Denali are such good friends."
"Alright man, well stop pestering you about it... for now at least." Jaxon replied stepping forward.
"Now that that's settled, does anyone smell anything off around here?"
Each of the three wolves in front of me put their noses to the air, scenting the wind. A strong gust blew our direction, shaking the treetops. Needles and leaves fell around us. Kosan was the first to reply.
"I don't smell anything E."
"Its distant, but it's there. May be an older path." Kierce put in.
"I can too. It's a ways of from the border, maybe a mile or more. However, and from what I can tell nothing to much to worry about. Maybe just a normal wolf." Jax advised.
I took a moment to think over their responses. "I don't think it's old. We would have caught it on our patrol yesterday morning. I dont think its a normal wolf. Normal wolves are usually in packs as well and the scent has that werewolf tinge to it. Think it could be a rogue. Lone wolf spy mission maybe?"
"I know that look Eve," Kierce bagan. "You want to check it out dontch ya."
"I do. It's not often we get a werewolf on its own out here. Nonetheless one that comes so close to the border." I replied, gazing of in the direction of the scent.
"Well then let's go," Kierce responded of in the scents direction. Kosan took off behind his twin, following close to his tail.
"Come on Ev. Or are you planning to let those two chase. I'll admit, they alway need to let off some extra energy." Jax said before taking off after the other two.
"I hope this is the right choice," I thought only to get a faint growl from my wolf. Pushing my thoughts aside, I raced after the others.
