I had that stupid prophetic dream again, and I woke up at five AM with a pounding head ache. Jeez, I had got next to no sleep last night, and now that stupid dream was waking me up. Again. I rubbed my eyes blearily, and yawned. I cuddled back into my bed, and closed my eyes. I had almost drifted off again, when my alarm clock went off. Ugh! Can a person not sleep around here? Oh. My. Gosh! I finally gave up on the tempting idea of sleep, and stood up. I stretched and stiffly walked to the vanity table set up against the wall, and began working on my hair and makeup. As I worked, events from yesterday washed over me. I have a boyfriend now. I have a lot of new friends. And, most importantly, Alex is back in my life! Alex! Oh, and then there's Naida and Rae-Lynn. Ugh. But, I have (semi) friends now, that can whoop their tails!
After I was finished getting ready, I slipped into the pretty black and gray ruffled shirt I had picked out last night, and slipped into a pair of cute jeans, with some adorable black ballet flats. Feeling more confident than I had since...since forever, I waltzed down the stairs into the kitchen, ate a quick breakfast, and walked downstairs to the portals.
In first period, I learned how to read auras. It was painstaking, but once you get the hang of it, pretty dang fun. Everybody has a basic aura, which tells you about what kind of person they are and blah blah blah, and then they have an aura surrounding it to show what mood they are in. I also learned how to block my aura from other people, which was about ten times harder to do then actually reading the auras, which is saying something.
We exercised in P.E., no surprises there. In third period, we had to do a short worksheet on the kings of Dusk. Ballet was intense, and I knew my calves would be killing me in the morning from all of the barre exercises. Noel explained that our muscles build up quicker than humans, so I would have muscular legs before the week was over. Pretty weird if you ask me. In Sword Play, we did push-ups and a few other arm exercises, to build up strength to “properly,” wield our weapons. Alex walked me to lunch.
“So, how has your day been?” I asked. I had already been in three classes with him, but we hadn't had much time to talk.
“It's been...busy. I think the teachers are trying to kill us. I don't think I've done this much work since I started here,” he said, wincing as he rubbed his arms. We walked in silence for a few minutes. “How was your little date yesterday?” Alex said, his tone light and joking, but his aura flashed with...was that jealousy? Really?
“It was pretty good,” I said. Yeah, definitely jealousy I was seeing. A sickly green jealousy distorting his warm yellow aura.
“That's good,” he said distractedly. “Marie said she met you yesterday.”
“Really?” I asked, my eyes widening in shock.
“Yeah. She felt a need to come home and rant at me about how rude our generation was, and how Cordelia needs to be on her side, and blah blah blah. God, she gets on my nerves,” he said, rubbing his temples.
“Yeah, we got a similar lecture at that Italian restaurant we were eating at,” I said, as we entered the cafeteria.
“She's awful,” he said. “Absolutely awful. I wish she would fall off a cliff. Maybe I could do the world a favor and push her off one,” he muttered angrily. I wished I could hug him, or do something to comfort him, but I could feel the curious eyes of other students on me, and decided it was best to just not do anything.
“Alex, you had best not be talking about me!” Tina said in a jokingly harsh tone as she and Jane stepped into line behind us. “Or else I will get Naida to pick you an apple, and you know what will happen then,” she threatened. We all laughed and looked around for Naida. She wasn't anywhere to be seen. Huh.
