I wake up much later than I usually do, and look out the window. Today is going to be a good day, I can feel it. I grab my speaker and clothes and take a quick shower. I was surprised to see Jake still here since Kyle went to work.
"What are you still doing here?" I ask him.
"Just hanging out, where are you going?"
"I am going to explore and take pictures" I say, lifting my camera to show him. Jake nods, and stands up looking at me as if I can read his mind.
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Can I come with you?"
I sigh and nod my head grabbing my car keys. I put my white converse on, leaving Jake in the house. As I'm getting in the car, I feel as if someone is watching me. I turn around scanning my eyes up and down the street, but to my surprise no one is there. I brush it off and get in the car playing my music. Jake and I scream the words to every song that comes on, laughing in between. We get to the park and I begin unloading all of my gear, while Jake gets distracted by a lady walking her dogs.
"Jake come on let's go!"
"But the dogs!"
"We'll see more, I need to get some good pictures before it gets too dark"
Jake runs over to me with a sad look in his eyes like he's a little kid and I told him he can't have ice cream for dinner. We walk around the park coming across squirrels and crying children. Every so often I stop and take pictures of the trees, or zoom in on birds. It's almost 4:30 as my stomach lets out a loud growl. Jake looks over at me like a demon escaped my body. I start laughing to the point where tears were streaming down my face. We reach the car and I see a piece of paper on the windshield, puzzled I open it but instantly regret it once I read the words.
I would be careful if I were you Sabrina. Watch your back.
Love, Eric
I shove the letter in my pocket yelling at Jake to quickly get in the car as I speed out of the parking lot. The whole way home Jake kept asking me what happened. I ignored him and turned the music up louder. I could feel the letter burning a hole in my pocket. I never thought I would see or hear from him again, and now I can't control my anxiety. I pull in the drive way only to find out Kyle is home. Great, Jake is going to tell him what happened and I'm going to have to talk about it. I get in the house, say hi and run up to my room. How did he get out? When did he get out? He knows where I am. I need to leave again. I think to myself for what seems like hours. I hear a soft knock on the door. "Come in" I say quietly. Kyle walks in and sits on the edge of my bed looking at me with sympathy in his eyes. I look away and continue playing on my phone, not saying a word.
"What happened today when you were leaving the park?"
I didn't say anything, but continued to play on my phone. I could tell that Kyle was getting impatient but I didn't care. I was not ready to talk about this again, and I don't think I ever will. I think Kyle understands because he doesn't say anything else, instead he just gets up and walks out of the room. I grab my headphones, get curled up in bed and play my music as loud as it can go. I thought today was going to be a good day, but I guess things change.
