Flick and I finally made it to the gates. I looked over at him, dirty and defeated from the trip. Mouse sat in his lap zoning off into the distance. I slowly let the rumbling Jeep come to a stop. We had made it through so much. I wasn't even excited to be home. PKT had embedded itself into me which lessened the worth of BnB to me. It was heartbreaking.
Guards started walking over to our car to investigate. I recognized one as Pluto, the head guard.
"C'mon Flick" I said "let's go." He picked up Mouse and we got out of the car. He kicked the door shut behind him.
"Do you have ID?" Pluto asked us. I didn't have ID but Mouse and Flick did.
"This is all I have" I grabbed their IDs out of Mouse's sack and handed it to him. He ran a red laser over them to confirm that they were real.
"Ok, they will be checked in. You are not allowed past the gates." One of the guards behind Pluto told Flick to go with him. Flick walked past me without looking back. This irritated me. After all I had done in the past three days for him to get him here he still ignoring me like a child. I expected it from Mouse but not him. Mouse had inevitably picked sides with Flick. I had lied to her too. My anger took over me.
"Actually, I am going through that gate." The guard and Flick stopped walking and looked back at me. Mouse perked up too. "I need to speak to Cherry"
"I can't just go get Cherry for anyone who doesn't have an ID" Pluto stated.
"Listen, there's a reason I don't have ID" I said sternly. I looked him dead in the eyes, "I am going with them now. I am a member of Blood and Barbies. Keep me in a cell until you find me in the member book." I guess I had stunned pluto because he didn't stop me when I marched off with Flick and the second guard. I was escorted to a cell in the locker while Flick and Mouse were taken to the registration building.
Blood and barbies was absolutely bustling with people. The main floor of the locker was jam packed of what you would call refugees, from PKT and other gangs I couldn't identify. When I got to the third floor I was shocked once again. The four cells in the room weren't being used, in fact the whole room was turned into one giant cell for everyone to share.
"This is what you asked for" the guard chuckled. I told myself that Jade or Cherry would soon find out that I was being held here and come get me. I was no longer really afraid of POCs the way you would be afraid to be in a room full of prisoners. I had learned that most of them haven't even committed a serious crime.
That night, everyone slept on the floor. There were four toilots, one from each of the cells for over one hundred of us to use. I thought about what could have caused such a huge spark in population. People were seeking shelter from other gangs, I guess. I wasn't sure what had even happened. What did the murder of Tea mean for other gangs?
The next morning, Jade came for me. I was enthralled to see her but angry at the same time. Now it was my turn to feel lied to. She took me down to Cherry's office. You know you must be important if you are in Cherry's Office. It was much smaller than I had expected. Almost all the furnishings were red which made sense because Cherry is a very sexual and classy person. I sat down on a red velvet sofa next to Jade. Despite all the excitement from being in Cherry's Office, I was completely emotionally and physically drained. I could feel the anger that was trapped inside me from being betrayed from the very gang I was serving. I didn't understand why they had set me up with Flick if he wasn't even a spy. I had so many questions for them but at the same time all I truly cared about was getting Flick to forgive me.
Lacey, with her pink bubbly hair and all white jumpsuit, walked in followed by the famous Cherry. I sat stunned by her perfection. It wasn't everyday you got to see the leader of a gang. She is probably the only plus-sized member, yet she could not look better. Nothing could improve her. Her perfect black hair and red lips created such a striking appearance. She sat down at her mahogany desk and closed the open laptop that sat on it.
She spoke, "The first thing I want to say to you Lazuli, is thank you." She held eye contact with me, as Lacey spoke next.
"I couldn't imagine anyone doing better" Lacey said wholeheartedly.
"But they found me out!" I said.
"We were not expecting the attack from Arrow." Jade said. Coming from Jade, that meant a lot. "They did not have time to mark you as a spy. Other gangs do not know about you and they will not find out." I started to feel better, but I still had so many questions. I wasn't surprised they knew how I did at PKT. I'm sure there were more spies there reporting back to them on my progress. I wondered who it was.
"I am so sorry that we had to trick you with Flick. This has been Flick's training session. We know that he has committed a true crime but we are willing to overlook it. You have taught him an important lesson. Don't trust anyone." Cherry said with ease. My stomach fell at that. I did not want to teach anyone that lesson. It hit me hard, I doubt Flick would ever forgive me. Why would he? Even though I was forced to lie to him and Mouse it was still a lie.
"This brings us to the next task" Jade said. Another slap in the face, I was not expecting them to still need me. "you are going to Sunset with Flick as an official partner."
