"It's happening. They're here."
Sefia watched as the words barely escaped from him. Both stood frozen, neither one brave enough to move away from the threat.
'No... this isn't really happening now, right?' she began questioning herself.
She watched alertly at the house being torched, trembling. A little girl stood at the window banging on the glass. 'There's a little girl in there!'
Lance got to his senses first and grabbed Sefia's arm, running to hide behind the wall of a nearby house. "C'mon! We got to move! If we just stand here, we're dead."
The two reached behind the wall and Lance planted himself at the corner of the building, inspecting the street they were just standing at. "Looks like he didn't see us..."
"Did you see the insignia?"
"Yeah, he's from Ceclarin." He said ominously.
"What do you think they're here for?"
"With these guys there's no telling. Although, best guess would be for that weapon." he turned back to Sefia, who was now withdrawing her sword.
'There was only one soldier there, if I'm not mistaken. There are probably a lot more up ahead though, especially if they're headed for the research chambers. This street can take me closer to chambers faster.' Without giving it another thought, she tore down the street in the direction of the soldier.
"Hey!" Lance yelled "What're you doing?!"
She gripped her blade firmly and charged at the soldier, knocking the flaming torch out of his hands.
"What the-!?" the soldier exclaimed. He whirled around and kicked her against the wall. "Tch. What's a little brat like you doing with a sword?"
"Sefia!" Lance called out, running to help.
"Hm? There's more of you?" he averted his attention for a minute.
Sefia recollected herself and rolled around the soldier. In an instant, she was standing behind him. Without wasting a moment, she thrust her foot into the back of the soldier's knees, causing him to collapse and jabbed the handle of her sword sharply into the back of his neck, knocking him out temporarily.
"Hmph. That'll keep him knocked out for a bit."
Lance blinked in shock. "I don't recall teaching you that."
"... I come up with stuff on my own too, you know." Sefia knocked down the door of the burning house and began her search. The carpets and chairs were all set ablaze. The wallpaper had come apart and curtains were now stained black from the flames.
'This is horrible. I just hope that girl's still alright... I wonder if her parents-'
She stopped when she entered the kitchen. Two dead bodies were spread on the ground. Blood had discolored the tiles on the kitchen floor. She cupped her hand over her mouth to avoid the stench.
'Damn it. Upstairs. She should be there'. She quickly climbed the stairs and searched the rooms one by one. Finally she found the girl crouched in a corner. She rushed over to her and tried to converse with her.
"Hey! Are you alright?!" No response. "Tch."
She lifted girl in her arms and carried her out of the house. To her surprise, she found two more soldier's bodies lying on the ground outside.
Lance shrugged his shoulders. "We had company. Is she okay?"
"I'm not sure... she isn't responding." She said putting the girl down.
