"10 years is a long time, too long. It's so lonely, but then it's not. I've been here so long I can't remember who I was before. I can't remember what it's like to speak, to have an opinion. I don't live, I just survive. I've been told my eyes are dead, I've been told that I look like a ghost. But why do they care? They made me this way.
I'm Raelynn, I was taken by some bad people at 8. I'm now 18 and I've given up on life changing. The probability of someone ever reading this is small since I wrote it on a napkin I stole. I wrote with the stub of a pencil I found on the ground in the office, and the napkin, that I stole from the dining room. I shudder when I think about the punishment if they found out. I just sit with my back to the wall, waiting, they'll come eventually. Soon enough they do, and then the beating comes. By the time it's done, I don't look human, my face is split and my body is bloody. I don't know what I did, but must have deserved it.
"You fucking piece of shit, you're worthless, you know that?" Kyle said.
I just slowly nodded.
"You're not gonna use that pretty voice of yours? You had such a pretty voice."
I just stayed silent. What's the point?
It's always been this way, I don't know who I am with out it. I fall asleep with the words "Who am I" running through my head.
