The air was crisp to my tongue, sticks crunched as I felt tiny rocks, bumps on the ground, and sticks rip my skin. My body was sluggish, barely movable. Rope that I used to break easily didn't even budge. Air came in and out of lungs as fast as a carp swimming with the current. A blindfold blocked my eyesight enhancing my hearing.
I was in the forest being dragged by two males. There were about five people in total though. Birds flew and animals skittered away as we approached.
"We need to get a message to Lady Sabrina with the good news." This voice had a chipper happiness to it that I haven't heard since Michael grew out of his baby voice.
"We will once we get to the site and fortify it." An orotund voice bellowed above. "The Alpha back there won't rest until he finds and kills us all. Ar-"
"How do you know?" The young voice queried.
"Did you not see the feralness in his eyes? They turned a reddish black before he sent up that help, warning howl. We should've put more in the other sterilizer. Arwin, make sure you're coating everything with that concealer. It's paramount that it works." The second voice was firm in his speech.
How in the blazing forests did I get into this mess?
A Day Earlier
With everything packed and ready to go, we filled the trunk. Jiro couldn't stop smirking at me to the point I was getting bombarded with violent thoughts by an angry wolf. I guess that's why werewolves get into fights; their wolves always got bothered by the simplest things.
I am not! He's challenging me with that arrogant attitude of his.
He wants you to fight him. We can't let every male infuriate us into fighting them.
The car ride wasn't much better. Jiro kept singing to all the songs on the radio. Sometimes his voice was really good but then others grated on my ears. Travis even joined in at points. I'm not going to lie: I did sing at least two songs as well. After an hour, it was decided we'd play the I Spy game; it was very banal since the interstate bordered on the forest the whole time.
How long was the car ride?
God must've heard my prayers about ending our journey because houses came into view. A large parking lot bombarded with vehicles surrounded by tons of houses was the first thing we saw. On the horizon, there was a humongous wooden playground covered with kids. Obstacle courses littered the lawn. There were only mulch walkways giving the place a rustic atmosphere. Trees were sparsely scattered around. A lone man stood on the main walkway as we parked.
I noted certain things to Tayla as we got closer to the man.
"Kailyn, Travis," Jiro's voice interjected into my thoughts, "this is my Beta Adam. We need to plant our scents on you so that the pack knows you're guests." What?
Before I could do anything, Jiro and Adam both rubbed their shoulders against mine then went to Travis. If that, was awkward for me, I wonder how he felt.....
They led us across the lawn and down a hill which brought us to another hill. Atop the next one was a house with four stories. The siding was grey, blending in with the white shutters and porch. This must be the Alpha's house. Jiro stopped abruptly in front of the steps. "Welcome to my house. If you don't like it, I'm willing to punch you the face."
Of course he would say something like that.
He then opened the door for us to enter. The other two simply walked in and sat down. Following them, there was a foot that stuck out ready to hook my ankle. I jumped over it. Turning around, walking backwards, I blurted, "ha, you really believed I would fall for that." Swiveling around, I hit something extremely sturdy. I fell backwards hitting my head on the floor.
