Phoebe's POV:

"Oh. You all know each other?" Mom asked.

"Yeah. Sophie and Jack are the same age as Max and I," I said.

"And Aiden and Emma go to school with us," Nora added.

"Well, how about we all go sit down," Dad suggested.

Soon we were all seated at the dinner table. Mom and Dad were sitting at each end of the table while Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin were sitting to the left of Dad. I sat down and motioned for Sophie to sit next to me. Smiling gratefully she took a seat only to have Max sit next to her.

"So why did you move to California?" My mom asked, breaking the silence.

"Oh, the place I was working for closed down and I found the same job here so we moved," Mr. Benjamin explained.

"I see. What do you do for a living?" Dad asked.

"I'm a dolphin trainer at the local marine park," Sophie's dad said.

"That must be fun," Mom said. "Where do you work?" She asked Mrs. Benjamin.

"I'm the music teacher at the elementary school,"

"She's the best singer ever!" Nora exclaimed.

Another awkward silence settled and remained until everyone was finished eating.

"Would you like to see my room?" I whispered to Sophie.

"Sure," she whispered back.

Nodding for her to follow me, I got up and led her up the stairs.

"Wow! I love your room!" Sophia gushed.

"Thanks," I smiled at her.

"Well her room defiantly isn't as cool as mine," a voice said from behind us.

We both turned around to see a smirking Max leaning against the doorframe with Sophie's brother, Jack, behind him.

"And what would make your room so much better, Smirky?" Sophie asked, sassily.

Max smirked again. "Follow me and I'll show you," he said.

I immediately felt panicked. Max's room was super villain central, what was he thinking!

Max's POV:

I could tell Phoebe was panicked, but I honestly didn't care.

I led Sophie and Jack down the stairs to my lair, deciding the slide might weird them out a little.

"Your room is a... Cave?" Sophie asked, sounding a little confused.

"Seaweed brain," Jackson muttered under his breath, obviously not intending for me to hear. Sophia glared at him, which I had to admit was pretty cute.

"A cave!" Doctor Colossal's indignant voice rang out.

Jack frowned. "Who said that?"

"Oh, um, me," I said awkwardly. "I do different voices when I'm, um, annoyed."

Sophie huffed and rolled her eyes. "Your room," she said icily. "Is not that great." With that she turned around and walked up the stairs.

"What's her problem?" I asked Jack.

"Don't know, don't care. Why?" He said dismissively.

"Oh. No reason," I lied. "Do you like Hiddenville?"

"Yeah. It's okay, I guess. Do you?" Jack replied.

"Well yeah. I liked Metroberg better, but Hiddenville's pretty cool."

Jack and I continued on with a pretty much pointless conversation and I couldn't stop myself from wishing I was talking to Sophia instead.
