I can always fall asleep to the footsteps of rain. I can always fall asleep to the nocturnal voices, and i can always fall asleep to the sound of your breathing. But when i'm left alone, i feel cold. I feel empty, and could lay awake for hours on end in silence and darkness. I'd rather sweat, and tear my hair out, and feel my skin crawl with bugs, than to feel nothing at all.

I find that writing poetry as stories helps me write poetry better. So this poem is constructed like a story, however, it is still a poem. Kind of similar to the writing style of Witness by Karen Hesse.
