What's in a Name? Part 2: Nicknames

So uhhh now that we've gone through my life in usernames let's do nicknames

why, you ask? Idk. Maybe because I'm obsessed with attempting to tell stories about my past in hopefully amusing ways.

So I didn't really have that many nicknames when I was little. My parents mostly called me a couple random things, mainly being "sweet girl" from my mom and "princess" from my dad. I think I remember my sisters called me ree rye at some point idk.

Then came middle school and I discovered the beauty of online friends. I spent a lot of time on minecraft with one of my best friends in 6th grade and one of her online friends, and tHEN. I was on twitch one day (wow remember when twitch was relevant HAAAAA jk it's still kind of relevant but finally people have discovered more decent streaming platforms.) and I scrolled all the way to the bottom to find streams with the least views, and so I eventually got along with these two girls and we Skyped all the time it was great.

And uhhh around that time I had one of those "Rainbowleopardz" or "Rainbowpiglet" or whatever rainbow name as my twitch name and Skype name. So uh. They both called me Rainbow. Just casually. Like it was my name. (Wow Riley why so many rainbows it's almost like you're-) but I was perfectly fine with that and i thought it was a suuuuuper cool name.

Plus it wasn't all that strange seeing as the two girls I was talking to were called "grapple" and "shadow."

Aaaaand so as time passed I grew apart from grapple and shadow sadly (I did at least know them long enough for both of us to start calling eachother by our real names though)

and around later middle school I got to know this kid named uh

o holy frick

do I use a fake name????

Am I doing this here I didn't think this through beforehand?

So in late 7th grade a had a small, no let's be honest, dorkily huge crush on Google and sneakily manipulated my way into slowly becoming best friends with him (his full story is an interesting one for another day. But again he has a quotev and we're still friends so that might be weird)

but anyway by middle of 8th grade we were inseparable. Eventually we started dating because wow my 7th grade genius manipulation worked! And so at some point when we were becoming pretty close he showed me google hangouts (see, the google thing makes sense), which is basically just like skype but owned by google bc everything has a google version of itself nowadays. And so he introduced me to tons of his friends on there who were awesome.

And around that time I had my ryethepiglet name or maybe my ryeinthesky name idk although no one had ever really called me "rye" out loud. ( And side note one time I was at a signing for one of my favorite authors and I put the name for them to make the signature out to as "Rye" and I ended up panicking a bunch bc he kept calling me Rye and i wasn't used to it so I froze up and ah it wasn't great) but anyway google and his friends started calling me that a lot and so it really stuck and plus I guess it's associated with a good memory from back when I was hanging out with them and memories from all my great friends that call me that now. Idk that might sound strange bc it's just a name but it's special to me idk (I don't hangout with Google much anymore btw but we're friends!) so nowadays basically all my friends call me Rye half the time and it feels a lot more natural, like I probably wouldn't even notice whether they said rye or Riley.

I also have a lot of inside joke related names such as "seastar" (me and my friend Jenna called eachother sister in strange accents and it became seastar),"MY SON" (my friend Liana, whom you'll probably hear a lot about pretty soon, meant to call me her daughter but said son on accident but it seemed to fit better so I'm her son), "clone", aaaand a lot more but this chapter is getting super long and you probably don't care all that much so uh

yeah

So uh TL;DR i guess- you can call me Riley or Rye either is fine but Rye sounds cooler and gives me good feels

also uh hey Liana I know you're reading this at some point so wow hi you got mentioned in this chapter you're basically a celeb now
