23. The End

Epilogue Part II

I stretched and felt Mauni's little body beside me. This girl is always sneaking into my bed at night. I got from under the covers putting them on Emauni so she doesn't wake up and went to the adjoining bathroom. I washed my face and brushed my teeth. I debated on whether I should comb out my hair but I was too lazy too so I pulled the mop-like mess into a seriously messy bun on the too of my head.

I went downstairs to the kitchen and took out the bacon, eggs, and potatoes. I washed the cutting board off and two pans then put the pans on the stove to heat up. The door bell rang just as I took out the grater to start grating the potatoes. I walked to the door pulling down my short night gown, I peeped through the peephole and saw my good friend Alec.

"Good morning babe!" Alec whisper yelled hugging me. He closed the door softly.

"Good morning, I was just making breakfast, want something to eat?" I asked as he followed me back to the kitchen.

"Yea, thanks."

"No problemo lame-o." I joked.

Alec laughed and took a seat around the island. I met Alec a year ago when Emauni was turning one. He was one of the contractors who designed the new board room for my magazine. Which is doing phenomenally well. He and I began good friends, especially since I hadn't had male companionship other than Dale since Ethan died. Alec was black, tall and muscular built. He had a professionally low haircut, and was a very handsome man. Although I'm not sure if I'm ready to see another man in that way, I know I should move on so Emauni doesn't grow up without a stable father-role but it's hard.

I was distracted by a pinch to my arm making me slap Alec with the hot metal spatula.

"Shit! Damn Keyani!" He howled making me jump in realization.

"Shhh! Oh my gosh I'm sorry I'm sorry it was a reflex you scared me!" I said genuinely sorry.

"It's alright, I was just trying to get your attention you were zoned out."

"Sorry Alec I really am." I said going to get the mustard out the fridge.

I sat beside Alec and squirted some mustard on his arm where I had hit him.

"What are you doing I don't like mustard." He complained scrunching up his face.

I laughed and rubbed the mustard in his arm gently covering the area. "Hush up, my grandmother told me when I was little and I accidentally touched the burner on the stove to run mustard on my hand. The burning feeling cooled and I didn't scar."

"Ugh fine."

I rolled my eyes laughing at his crybaby attitude. "You better not have woke up my baby with that hollerin'." I eyes him before washing my hands and began peeling the potatoes.

Thirty minutes later we had hot honey maple bacon strips, three cheese omelets, and IHOP style hash browns. I went upstairs to wake up Emauni while Alec set the table.

"Wake up baby, it's time for breakfast." I said in her ear shaking her gently.

"Two more minutes mommy." She whined.

"But Alec is downstairs waiting on you. I guess I'll tell him you don't wanna see him." I said getting up slowly.

"Noooo mommy! I coming!" She jumped out the bed.

I laughed and picked her up going to wash her face and watch her brush her teeth. When she was done we went back downstairs where Alec was just puttin down the cups of orange juice.

"Allyyyy!" Emauni screamed running into his arms.

Alec smiled and lifted her into the air throwing her up and catching her. "Hey Princess Mauni."

"All right you guys sit down so we can bless the food and eat."

"I wanna bless it!" Emauni volunteered. "God, thank you for th-this food we get to eat. And for bring me Ally, he make mommy happy so I happy too. Amen." Emauni finished.

My cheeks were probably red right now, and I know Alec noticed by the smirk on his face. I mouthed him to shut up and began eating my food.

"This good mommy."

"Hey, I helped too." Alec pouted.

"Sowwy, this good mommy and Ally." Emauni corrected making me laugh.

"Thank you Mauni."

"Thank you baby." I said.

When we were done eating Emauni went to wash her hands and face and play with her toys.

"So what's been going on?" Alec asked while we both washed dishes.

"Nothing really, visited Ethan yesterday. It kinda does get better after time. I just gotta get used to waking up to an empty bed." I shrugged.

"You don't have too." Alec said.

I looked up to see him looking at me. I looked away.

"Look at me Keyani." He said taking his wet hand and placing them at the sides of my face, I didn't even flinch.

"You know and I know Ethan would have wanted you to be happy. If that means moving on to someone new then I'm sure he wouldn't mind. I didn't know him but if I left the world I would want my girl to be happy even if it's without me." He said leaning in.

Before I knew it his lips captured mine, taking my bottom lip in his mouth he grazed it with his teeth before pulling it in and kissing me. The kiss was warm and sweet and gentle. My wet hands found their way around his neck as his slid down to hold my waist. I savored his his soft lips, after a moment longer he pulled away. a his hands lingering around my waist.

"I love you Keyani, I really want to give us a chance. This past year showed me that your exactly the girl I need." He said pulling my closer to him.

"I-I just don't know. Even if I wanted to move on... I just wanna risk our friendship."

"It's a risk I'm willing to take, ai cant sit around in the friend-zone with you any longer. " Alec said looking me in my eyes.

I sighed and pulled him into me, hugging him. I had mixed feelings I really did like Alec even though I won't tell him. But I also value our friendship and I don't want that to be ruined by us trying to start a relationship. We continued hugging, Alec rubbing my back comfortingly, and I continued thinking.

"I have to get to work, but i'll swing by later with Princess Mauni's favorite foods." Alec said holding me so I can see his face.

I nodded and walked him to the door.

"Later." He said leaning down and kissing me again.

I watched him walk down the driveway and get into his car before I closed the door. I leaned against the door and closed my eyes.

Alec and I... I don't want to bring him into both my and Emauni's life intimately and run the risk of him leaving permanently and breaking Emauni's heart. She cant go through that, and he's the closest to a father figure she has.

I walked upstairs and grabbed my phone off the dresser, scrolling down I hit call.

"Hello, is everything okay?!" He answered in a panicky tone.

I laughed a little, "Yes everything is fine."

I heard him let out a breath, making me smile, "So what's up the ?"

"Well Alec I...."
