I was peacefully asleep. I wasn't dreaming at all, and I felt calm. But I also felt like I was missing something. I knew it was him, and I hated that. I hate that I needed him and I would never not need him.
But I woke up from my sleep when I heard a crack of thunder. My heart felt like it was in my throat as I shot up from the bed. That's when I saw Xavier. He was sitting on the couch by the window, watching the heavy rain fall.
"Xavier?" I whispered and he turned towards me. He was only wearing jeans, his eyes were low, and he looked dangerous. He always looked dangerous.
Then he whispered, "Come." And I did. I didn't want him to be mad at me for earlier, and I didn't want to be alone with all the thunder.
I sat on the couch, and wrapped my arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. He did the same, then lied back do I was resting my head on his chest.
It was silent for a long time until I said, "Are you mad at me?" He stroked my hair.
"No." I closed my eyes, enjoying the moment. I loved the smell of him, and how it felt when he held me.
"I'm sorry." I whispered to him. He stopped stroking my hair, and kissed my forehead.
"Don't be, I shouldn't have reacted like that with you." I didn't say anything, just lied on him. Then he whispered so quietly, I almost didn't hear him. "I was just six." My breathing hitched. "He tied me, my mother and father up. I didn't know what was going on. I just saw my father being beaten and my mother crying on her bed." He stopped and tightened his hold on me. "He raped my mother right in front of my father and I, then he stabbed her." Tears filled my rates and his voice became harsher. "He made the scars on my back, then he killed my father right in front of me. It was hours before someone found us. My mother was still alive, but died later that day." A tear slid down and continued to run down his chest. "I became the Alpha very young. Ever since that day, I refused to let anyone else in. Being an Alpha was my only focus. I was just a shell." He wiped a tear from my cheek. I lifted my head to face him. "But then I found you. I never thought I'd find my mate. Neither did anyone else because of everything I've done. But there you were, scared, and bruised. You've changed me so much, Lucy. I've fallen so hard for you, I didn't think I'd feel so much for one person. When I wake up and see you, my day is bright. I'd do anything to make you happy. I want to help you forget about your past and make a future. And I don't want to lose you just because I couldn't talk to you." He stopped for a second, "I love you, Lucy." I stared at him, lost for words. "You don't have to say it back. Just kiss me." And I did. I know that I care for him, and I wanted to stay beside him, but did I love him? Is this what love is?
"Thank you." I said to him. "For talking to me." He smiled a little, and kissed the corner of my mouth.
"Go to sleep, the storm will be over soon."
-
I woke up the next day on our bed, with Xavier spooning me. I feel much closer to him, and I feel more comfortable to be lying like this.
I slowly get up and use the restroom before changing into a navy sundress and sandles. Then I go back to the bed and sit next to Xavier and brush his hair back.
"Wake up, Xavier." I whisper. He slowly opens his eyes and smiled. Then he grabbed me and pulled me back down.
"Lay with me just a little bit longer." I squirm away and pull the covers off him.
"No, let's go get breakfast and I want to watch you train today."
He sat up and rubbed his eyes. "How about we stay in bed all day doing a different kind of training?" I gasped and threw a pillow at him, making him laugh.
"Pervert!" I yell at him, the he winked before going to the bathroom.
He dressed in grey sweatpants and a black jacket. Then we left for the kitchen, had breakfast and went outside to the fields. Despite the storm last night, it was sunny and cool.
He held my hand there, and kept me close. When we were there, I saw Jackie standing under a tree watching the men and women training.
"Stay in the field, and don't wander into the woods. You know the dangers right now." I nodded and gave him a kiss before he took off, leaving me his jacket.
I walked behind Jackie, who hadn't noticed me yet. She was focused on the fighters, more specifically, Kevin.
"Hey." I said and she jumped.
"Hi. What's up?" She hugged me and turned back to the field.
"Not much. How's Mom and Trent?" She sighed.
"They're fine. I was bored so I came out to watch today's training." I giggled a little and teases her.
"You mean watch Kevin train?" She shoved me a little bit and hid her blushing cheeks.
"Shut up, Lucy. You're only here to watch the Alpha train with his shirt off."
I was about to deny it, but a loud alarm rang through the field. Jackie's smile fell into a horrified look.
Everyone in the field ran into the woods, except for Xavier. With incredible speed, he was in front of me.
"Follow Jackie to the shelter. Don't stray away from the group." That's all he said before he kissed me and ran into the woods where everyone else had gone.
Jackie grabbed my hand and dragged to the a steel door under the pack house. She punched in a code, and the heavy door opened just enough to let us in. Children, mother's, father's, and elderly people were all sitting on the floor. Young teens sat in groups while younger children were glued to their parents.
They all stared at me, some with kind, welcoming eyes. But others had anger and hate in them. I know it's because I'm human, and many believe I'm too weak to be the Luna. But I'll prove them wrong. I'm just as strong as them.
It had been over an hour, and we hadn't heard anything from anyone. I was getting worried Xavier was hurt or dead.
I stood from the floor, and slowly walked to the door.
"Lucy, no! The Alpha said not to separate from us. He'll be furious!" Jackie whispered.
"He'll get over it. I have to see what's going on." Knowing that she couldn't stop me from leaving, she hands me a small pocket knife. I put it into my pocket.
The door closes behind me, and I look around, not seeing anyone else. I walk into the woods, hoping to find Xavier or someone that could tell me he's ok.
At first, I walk around quietly. I didn't hear anything at all. Birds and bugs we're the only signs of life.
I know it's stupid to leave a safe area and walk into a dangerous one, but I can't help it. Something inside me is forcing me to check and see if Xavier is ok. Ever since I've met him, it's almost like another voice in my head wanting to always be around him.
Suddenly, a footstep breaks my train of thought. Thinking it's Xavier, I yell out for him. But no one appears.
Just as I'm ready to continue looking, someone grabs me from behind and covers my mouth.
"Hello, Luna. I've been looking for you." The man whispered. He smelled like dirt, and I knew he wasn't apart of the pack. "We should get going. Your mate is on the prowl for me." With one hand over my mouth and the other keeping my right arm down, he pushed me forward.
I didn't forget about the knife in my pocket, so with my left hand, I opened it up, elbowed him in the ribs and stabbed him in the leg.
He yelled out a few curses and let go of me. I ran in the opposite direction and picked up the pace when I heard the man growl and run after me. I got to a clearing, and stopped to breath. I didn't know where to go. Why am I so stupid? Why can't I ever listen to him?
"Thought you got away?" I heard him say from behind me. I turned around and was frightened by his appearance. He was muddy, had long, tangled hair and wild eyes.
I backed away. "My boss is waiting, and he hates waiting." He said and was about to lunge, but a huge wolf got in between us. It was gray, and growled as if it was rabid, at the man. Then more wolves came, surrounding him.
Kevin appeared with a black wolf much bigger than everyone else. He went to the wild man in the middle of the angry wolves and dragged him away without a word.
The black wolf, who I recognized as Xavier slowly approached me. He was noticably angry at me, but I wasn't scared. I knew he wouldn't hurt me.
"You're ok." I whispered, and reached out to touch him. When I caressed his fur, he calmed and leaned into my touch. Then he began to change back to his himself. I didn't like to watch that, it seems like it hurts.
He was naked, so I kept my eyes up. Then he grabbed me and slammed me into his chest. Sniffing my hair and holding my body in place, I relaxed, hugging him back. "What am I going to do with you, Lucy?" I didn't say anything. He loosened his hold, examining me. His eyes widened, "You're bleeding." He said as he grabbed my hand. But it wasn't my blood.
"No, it's his blood." I sighed.
He wasn't amused. "He could've hurt you Lucy." He growls. Then he picks me up, and runs to the pack house, still naked. He takes me to our room, puts on some boxers and jeans before turning his attention back to me.
"I specifically told you not to leave the group." He says.
"I had to find you." I replied, leaning against the wall.
"Do you know how many people are on the hunt for you?! Do you know what they'd do to you if they got you?!" He yells. I don't say anything. I just stare at the floor. "Your father sold you as a wife to a hunter! He's trying to find you. Rogues are trying to find you. Can't you just listen to me for once and stay where I tell you!"
I kept my eyes to the floor, but whispered, "I'm sorry. I'll listen next time." I said that partly because I was scared, but he was right. He's trying to keep me safe, and I'm not letting him. "Are you mad at me?" I said with a sad chuckle.
He wrapped his arms around me, and kissed my forehead. "I try to be angry at you, but it's impossible." I kissed him, but a knock on the door interrupted.
"Alpha, it's important." It was Kevin. Annoyed, Xavier answered the door. "We have a missing pack member. It's Grace."
-
For days, people searched and searched for a sign of Grace. We didn't find anything. Like she disappeared. We didn't know if she was kidnapped or if she's now helping my father and the rogues catch me.
"Lucy?" Xavier said. We were both lying on our bed, watching a movie. I was lying on him, actually.
"Yes?" I looked up at him. He hadn't shaved and began to grow a short beard. I like it.
"I want to make you an official member of the pack."
"How does that happen?" I asked. He smiled and brushed him hand over my cheek.
"It's just a small ceremony where we bind you to the pack. You'll officially become our Luna." I looked into his eyes, tying to find any emotion other than the adoration they held when looking at me.
"Will you stay with me during," I whispered.
"Of course." He chuckled.
"Then yes. I didn't think there was a ceremony for joining a pack." I sat up, not caring about what was on the T.V.
"It doesn't happen a lot, but new wolves must be bonded to the pack through the ceremony. But your ceremony will be different, since you are not a regular pack member." He played with my hair while explaining more about what would happen. It didn't sound too scary, but I'm really nervous for it.
"When will it happen?" I chuckled, trying to ease my nerves.
"Tonight." I got off the bed, shocked at his answer.
"What? Why tonight? I just agreed to this." He sat up and pulled me closer to him. "No, let go. Answer me." I tried getting out of the grip he had and my waist, but instead he pulled me closer and tighter.
"It has to happen tonight, or we'd have to wait another month for the full moon." I sighed and tried to leave his grip again. "Stop wiggling, Lucy. I hate it when you try and reject my touch."
I scoffed. "Well I hate when you make plans before asking me about them." I said sarcastically. He smirked and pushed me on the bed, hovering above me. He was always gentle with me, despite his strength. I loved the way he held me, like I'm the most precious thing in the world.
He caressed my hair, and kissed me softly. I wrapped my arms around him and sighed as he continued down my neck. The little tingling I felt where ever he kissed me made me anticipate his next action, but he always stopped.
"Xavier?"
"Yes, princess?" I blushed at the nickname.
"Why do you do that?" He paused. "I mean, why do you...stop."
He sighed, and kissed my hand. "Because I don't want to lose control of myself. My wolf is hungry and ready to completely make you ours, but he knows he must wait. It's difficult for us to keep our composure, especially when we have a mate so beautiful." He nipped my neck, making me shudder. "But we'll wait as long as we need to. I know you will be worth the wait." He gave me one more long kiss before he left to prepare for tonight.
As I lied there, lips swollen and my cheeks flushed, I thought about what he said.
Does he maybe realise that I want him just as much as he wants me?
