A Spoonful of Fire

Chapter 2

The rest of the way to the skating rink was full of silence. Well, I mean, Preston did try to break the silence off, but I just kept blowing him off. I just  don't know what to say to what I saw and heard, like it's weird. And even if it is crack, where would they even get it from anyways. Ughhh. . .

We pull up to the skating rink and I'm really anxious to get in and take my mind off of everything. I knew this was one of the only places that actually would take away my stress and worry.

"I'll pay for you." Preston tells me as I'm about to get my money out. Aww, he's so nice! 😊

We enter the skating rink and grab our roller skates.

"Aww man, I have not skated in years." I say as I'm about to get up from putting on my roller skates. I nearly fell from just getting up and walking on the carpet.

"I'm not gonna lie. Imma laugh if you fall, but I'll help you up." He tells me as I punch him in the arm and he lets out a fake ouch.

We approach the skating rink and I already have the Im gonna fall feeling. He offers to hold my hand and I take his offer.

"Your such a sissy, Bre."

"Whatever." I roll my eyes, leaving from his hand as I take off.

"Who's the Grandma now!" I yell at him as he tries to catch-up.

"Not me!" He begins to pick up the pace. As he tries to catch with me, he falls right to the ground. Ha, he's such a loser.

"Well, I guess I'm the better skater." I help him up to his feet.

"Your getting so good, I couldn't keep up. I guess I don't have it in me anymore." He laughs.

"I know it's random, but I don't know what I would do or where I would be if we weren't friends. I probably would be somewhere in a corner planning my death. I actually love you so much." I tell him. He smiles.

"Your the only person that I actually talk to at school. You know I don't mess with them hoes at school." He laughs again.

We talk and giggle some more for another 2 hours. We leave the skating rink.

"I really don't want to go, at least not with my mom acting the way she does it's definitely not exactly aesthetically pleasing." I open the passenger door to get in the car.

"I do want you to come over. Just sneak out, I don't know, but do let me know what happens. Text me."

He drives out of the parking lot and my eyes are filled with tears.

"What if my parents are on drugs that could tear the whole family apart."

"I'm so sorry. Don't cry. I don't like to see you like this."

I didn't utter. I didn't want to communicate with anyone. I was done. I know he was trying to talk to me, but at this point all I heard were murmurs.

As we accost my home, I'm having a no you shouldn't go in there feeling. But I had to.

"Bye, I love you." I give him a hug.

"I love you, too. You know what? I'm gonna go in with you. I don't think you should go in there by yourself. I'm staying for dinner."

"Would your mom care?"

"Nah. What? Is that a question? When does my mom ever care when I come to your house. Never."

I open up the house door to a bunch of commotion.

"Mom! Please! We won't do it again!" I hear my siblings say.

What could possibly be going wrong?

"Is everything okay." I say as me and Preston become shocked, while running in to all of this.

"Preston, I don't want anything to happen to you. You have to leave!"

"I will never leave you! I want to make sure your safe." He tells me as he holds me tight.

My mom is sitting in a rocking chair with a knife in her hand. When I turned my head, I saw both of my siblings scared to death.

"What are you doing?! Stop, or I'm calling the cops!" I say to my mom.

"Sissy help us!" They both say. Just right then and there I didn't even know what to do.
