My mother gasped. "What the fuck are you doing here?" She demanded.
I flinched, pulling my hands back to my sides. My uncle leaned against the wooden frame, relaxing. "Nice to see you too, sis."
"What the fuck are you doing here?" As she repeated her voice became harsher.
Tyler let out a short sigh. "My wife. She says she wants our kids to meet each other."
Uncomfortably I looked between them. They were both glaring at each other. A certain, unspoken, hate was emanating off of them. It was only when my father joined us upstairs that they broke their stares of each other. Mom crossed her arms.
"Fiona, you're home." Dad's voice was uncomfortable. He looked passed them at me, my expression the same as his. "Uh, Tyler's here-"
"I can see that." She snapped.
My mother wasn't normally one to show any anger. She got annoyed, sure, but she rarely expressed anything above that annoyance. It was certainly foreign to hear her so quickly lose her temper.
"What is he doing here?"
Tyler frowned. "I told you, Fi, I'm here because my wife wants our kids to meet."
"You really should have thought about that before you did what you did."
He tsked. "What I did? I tried to help our brother. You letting him live like a girl was great when we were kids, but what about now?"
"Gwen is a woman."
"No he is not."
"Yes she is!"
Dad quickly got in between them as they got closer. Mom was throwing a harsh finger at Tyler and he was making himself taller than he already was. Both backed down, being shorter than my father. That didn't stop the verbal assaults. It seemed as though this entire thing spawned from aunt Gwen. Each one had clearly taken a side.
"Enough!" Dad yelled. His voice was deep and harsh enough to cut through their petty bickering. They submitted. "This isn't about your relationship. This is about the kids, isn't it?" He faced my uncle. "Isn't it?"
Tyler made a sour face. "If it weren't for Katie I wouldn't have ever tracked you down. It isn't my fault I didn't get to meet my niece and nephew."
Mom grunted. "You have two nieces and three nephews."
"George and whoever he married are not parents. If George is really living as a woman, there's no way he got pregnant."
"Gwen and Eric adopted children."
He opened his mouth, then closed it just so he could snort out a laugh. "Eric? Like, the Eric he met in high school that also thinks he's a woman?"
"Fuck you, Tyler."
"He's a freak to, isn't he? I heard he fucked a guy before. How do you know he isn't just fucking George up the ass like a faggot couple while George masquerades as a girl?"
"Shut up." Dad glared at him. "As I said this is about the kids. Not your opinion on Gwen."
"I would rather die than let my children meet that deformed uncle of theirs." Tyler hissed.
My mother crossed her arms. "And what about the children that haven't wronged you in any way?"
Tyler rolled his eyes. "For the last time, Fi, those kids aren't my niece and nephew. They're accessories for George and Eric's fantasy."
