Part 5

Awkward Conversations

“How is you arm not sore?” Xephos asked his pal as Lomadia helped him from Honeydew’s room the couch in the living room. “Dude, I’m a dwarf, I swing a pickaxe like 24/7,”

“That’s true,” he said nodding as Lomadia sat in the seat opposite them. “Are you two ok with the others?” she asked them,

“Why wouldn’t we been?” Xephos questioned,

“Oh, I thought maybe because of yesterday, they weren’t very welcoming…” Lomadia said shyly. “I don’t remember anything so I’m ok,” Honeydew said casually, “Ok that’s good,” she said happily, “to be honest I think they’re feeling a bit nervous and guilty,” the lady whispered.

“Guys you can come in now,” she called out and looked toward the hallway door. It slowly opened reveling the blue spaceman whose name started with S, as Xephos recalled, there were also a few murmurs coming from behind him. “Go,” one of them whispered and then pushed the blue spaceman into the room. He smiled awkwardly at them then turned and motion for the others to get their asses in there. One after the other all four filed in like school boys that had detention and sat on a couch to the left of Xephos and Honeydew.

There was a moment of silence until one of them piped up. “Ok look I’m sorry for almost ripping your arm out of its socket but I wanted to know where you came from!” said the blond man wearing goggles in a hurry looking at Xephos. “I was just trying to stop him from ripping your arm out of its socket and taking you two away for lab experiments!” said the person with the foreign accent. Xephos just rose on eyebrow at them while Lomadia just face palmed. “You lot, are really bad at apologizing…” she said helplessly.

“Yea you could say that,” the orange space man smiled stupidly.

Xephos spoke up knowing that his friend wouldn’t due to his lack of knowledge of this group and the events with them. “Ah, there’s no need to apologize really,” he stated, “you didn’t do anything wrong but after over hearing the conversation you four were having yesterday while I was half  conscious, the one thing that is wrong is that portal. Why is that?” The others shifted in their seats a bit nerved. “That portal,” Lalna started, “is a Dimentional Portal, they were apparently a myth but after I discovered you two, well…yeah.” He finished awkwardly.

“Do you two even remember coming through that portal?” Sjin asked,

“Not really, we were chasing Zombie Boss, oh, ah, I mean, well, he’s a bad guy,” Honeydew studded. “Zombie, Boss?” Rythian said sarcastically,

“Yeah, him, Creeper Boss and Israphel,” Xephos looked down with a sigh.

“Is there something wrong Xephos,” Lomadia asked

“Huh, what? Oh no, not really, it’s fine,” he quickly replied, Lomadia gave him a suspicious look as the others continued.

“Well whoever built that portal has access to powerful magic,” said Rythian, “and resources,” Lalna added,

“And if he has more he could access to other parallel worlds,” Sjin quarried.

“If they were the people who threw you in the portal,” Sips commented, “why would they want to?” It was now the heroes turn to feel awkward, how are you meant to explain a whole war going on in a different world? Xephos felt something in his gut that made him think, but he didn’t know what it was.

“Well, I guess you could say they really don’t like us…” the dwarf answered.

The others knew they didn’t really want to go into detail, even though the claimed ‘Mad Scientist’ Lalna was awfully interested. “Well, I might head back to the compound now,” said Sips getting up,

“same there,” said Sjin following him out the door, “it was nice getting to know you two better,” he added before walking out.

“Lalna, you seem to know a lot about these Portals,” Xephos looked at the scientist, “what else do you know?” the scientist looked up at him happily.

“Well, I know that they also known as one way portals and that you can’t control where it sends you,” said the blond

“Just lucky you ended up here,” said Rythian who the whole time was trying to get his head around the magic used to make such a portal.

“I guess that’s why it went out…” Xephos wondered, “how far is it from here?”

“You just walk out the door really and walk straight for a bit,” said Lalna getting up, “do you guys mind if I take some of the stone to study?” he asked. Xephos was just about to say no, but then he remembered that it couldn’t be relit and he wouldn’t be able to get home, they were stuck there. “May as well,” he sighed, “maybe we could get some information out of it,”

“Cool, thanks guys,” he said walking out, Rythian stood up too,

“I better go as well, when I’m gone for long periods of time Zoeya starts talking to the mushroom a lot more and names one after me,” said he closing the door behind him.

“That is a hard group to talked to,” Honeydew said straight up,

“They’re not usually like that,” Lomadia said, looking out the window, “I guess they’re still a bit shocked.”

The two had settled in nicely with Lomadia. She told them of the wide range of technology and magic in the world and gave some background information on her four friends as they had dinner. “Well, you know Lalna? Well he’s a bit of a mad scientist,” she started, “and this whole portal thing is like caffeine to him. Oh and Rythian, he’s a mage who really doesn’t like science at all and there’s been a few wars over it too.” Xephos and Honeydew took in the information given to them and tried to get their heads around this new world while she continued. “Sips and Sjin, they have a dirt factory, don’t ask me why. They are more on the science side if this whole war thing and don’t really like Rythian.” Lomadia quarried, “Come to think of it, I don’t think Rythian likes them either because Sjin threaded to eat his dinosaur, Teep.” Xephos was about to take a bit of his food but stopped at those words.

After some more conversion and going more deeply into the weapons of mass destruction in Tekmania, Lomadia decided they needed to get some rest. She was practically their mother from another world, so kind and caring and ironically, always right. “Thank you for everything, Lomadia,” Xephos said as she helped him into bed, “its really ok Xephos, you don’t have to thank me for anything,” she replied while hanging up his coat, “you should be kind of thanking that creeper and zombie for not taking you lives when they had the chance.” Xephos was about to question this but then she realized she was right. Why hadn’t they just killed them? Lomadia noticed the look on his face and smiled, “sleep well, I’ll go see if Honeydew is ok, night,” and with that see walked out the door and closed it behind her leaving Xephos in the room with the only light coming for the mystical moon outside in this strange world.
