Val was chased by a nightmare. The same nightmare that plagued him over the years. Ramona could tell by the sound of his furious growls and the angry twitches of his shoulders. Just like a wolf chasing down demons from his nightmare. She watched him with curious fascination, the terror on his face and wondered exactly what could cause such fright from a powerful werewolf like him. She debated upon waking him up but decided against it. It's far more satisfying to see him drowning in his own personal hell than rescuing him from it.

His eyes snapped open, beads of sweat coated his forehead, his eyes golden and alert. Val's entire body tensed as if ready to sprang at his enemy until he recognized the woman staring right back at him is none other than Ramona. "You're awake."

Ramona had been awake all night unable to snatch a wink of sleep. "I'm surprised, you slept like you did after I showed up here. You must not have thought much of my attempt."

"You had all night to kill me and you didn't. That tells me as much as you're willing."

She snorted, "the mood is ruined."

He smiled. "Does that mean I have to watch my back?"

"You never know when I'll be in the mood to murder you again."

"Ramona, we both know you're not made for it."

"You don't know what I'm made of." She snapped.

It was true. Although Val knew her since childhood. He does not know the bargain she exchanged with a powerful demon.

" I know well enough that you're not a killer."

She bit her lip. He might be right but she's not about to overstay to prove him wrong. She swung the cover and slipped her legs off the bed. Ramona started fixing to leave straightening her garment when Val stopped her with a hand on her wrist.

"Where are you going?"

She turned to look at him, her thin elegant eyebrows drew together. "Leave. Why? Did you think I was going to stay?"

"You were hurt." He said as he appraised her, then realized she had recovered entirely from her injuries from the night before. His eyes narrowed with suspicion, it shouldn't be possible. "How?"

"It's none of your concern." She responded dismissively. Ramona gathered her knives that had been thrown on the floor along with her sword. She headed for the door when it swung open and a large gray wolf stepped inside.

"Lucian!" She breathed surprised and whipped her head to Val in confusion. He stood regally by the bed putting on his robe. Perhaps to let Lucian believe there's something that happened between them but Ramona knew Lucian's sense of smell was stronger than Val was trying to pretend.

Val raised his head as he met her furious gaze. "I cannot allow you to leave, Mona. You tried to murder me last night, my darling wife. You don't think I was going to let you just walk out of here after that, did you?"

Her lips curled back. "You said you weren't going to prosecute me."

He tread casually over to her, this time planting a kiss on her cheek. "I wasn't. But I wasn't going to let you leave either." With that, he walked out of the room and passed Lucian's massive wolf blocking most of the entrance. "Don't let her out of your sight, Lucian."

Ramona lifted her chin and glared at Lucian indignantly. "Dog's are not allowed in my bedchamber."

He blew a hard breath through his nose that sounded like a chuckle. Lucian pawed closer without a care and dropped right at her foot.

She stepped back feigning her disgust. "Eww."

Lucian rolled on his back.

Ramona rolled her eyes. Honestly, she felt like kicking him on the rib acting like he's a puppy. Adorable as he is in his wolf form she knew all too well than to fall for his charms. He is a deadly animal. "You fractured my rib!"
